Guest guest
, Hey... A true silver lining. Problem for me came later as I lost the ability to really taste the PTU. Or anything else for that matter. They do list this as a possible side affect of PTU, so I anxiously awaited the end of PTU, thinking I would regain my sense of taste.( and smell... sigh ) So... no PTU finally and then I waited... and waited.. and waited. Nothing. Time marched on and I began searching for more answers. Come to find out, for ME the lack of taste was NOT from the PTU.. it was a result of serious depression. And who wouldn't be depressed after too many years of a very bad endo? So... IF this happens to anyone, do not immediately blame the PTU. I know I may not be about when this question comes up in the future so I am throwing it into the ring now. To remember my meds was never a big problem because as soon as the PTU started to wear off, I FELT it. I did better if I prevented this from happening though, so a watch with an alarm set for my afternoon pill ( the one that was most likely to be forgotten ) helped a lot. BUT I had to drop everything and take the pill WHEN the alarm went off, or the whole idea went out the window. Be careful to not get too hypo , because even a touch of ADHD and hypo brain fog together is a very scary thing . Scary for others watching you too ! Tee Hee... Now the picture of how weird I was when very hyper _AND _ADHTD together makes more sense to you I bet. Boy, I was a piece of work at that time. Explains very clearly why I picked the screen name " Almostcrazy " ... NOW. Heck, if I can make it through all of this Graves' / ATDs / new education .. anyone can. Just take it one small step at a time. Though I did have the hyper focus advantage. And super sensitivity. See... silver lining for ADHD too ! -Pam L -
Guest guest
: Maybe I'm the only person who doesn't even think of PTU as having any taste. Occasionally one pill is not enough for my final dose of the 3 of the day...and I just bite off about 1/3 of another pill...then get the water. As far as taste buds...I wish I didn't have so much of a sense for taste...because that might help me not want to always eat so much. (Since Graves, it seems like I'm hungry all of the time.) Take care, Ron > > > Pam's post on swallowing meds prompted me to post on why I may be the only person taking PTU who appreciates the nasty taste. I have some ADHD and can easily forget the thrice daily PTU, often even intending to take it but not actually doing so. I fill a container with a daily dose, which helps me keep track, but my best reassurance that I've taken the next dose is that bitter taste. Of course, a pleasant taste would probably work as well . . . > > Best wishes, > > > > > > >

Even while going through periods in which swallowing pills was difficult and they'd often dissolve in my mouth, I never once tasted anything. As much as has been said on this board about the nasty taste, I'm not complaining that I can't taste it, it just seems odd to me. -Tori
Guest guest
I'm not at my regular computer today, so unfortunately I can not see who the original post came from, but if you can not taste the PTU you picked the right Great, Great, Great. Great .... Grandparents ! This is genetic. It has absolutely nothing to do with the PTU. One of the advantages of PTU is it is much more stable than Tap. Thus we do not have expiration/ freshness problems. I never ever had any issues . I always purchased my PTU in one year batches because of this. And anyone that followed me while I was still taking the PTU, knows I would be the first to notice even the SMALLEST change of any sort. The original poster has some sort of recessive gene as far as taste. It would be fun to know what other things he/ she has noticed that do not make his / her face turn inside out , when others go " Accccchhh " . PTU is used when they do special taste testing. While MOST people find it very strong, some individuals do NOT taste it at all. -Pam L-
Guest guest
Really? Is that just for PTU? Or any other pill that doesn't taste good is just from genetics...Because the 4 other pills I take a day don't really have a taste.. Is it stale when it doesn't have a taste. It is so bad that I don't take it sometimes cause i just cant stand it.. I have never heard of the genetics thing before....something to ask my pharmiscist about..thanks..
