Guest guest
Well, I got my 2nd round of lab tests back after I had the twins. They are all normal except TSH which is <0.01. FT4 is at the lower end of normal, FT3 is midnormal and Total T3 is mid-high normal. Other than being tired from not getting enough sleep, I feel pretty good. What I've been hoping to do is lower my dose of Cytomel to reduce the number of doses I take each day (I take it 4x/day) and increase my T4. It's way better than T4 alone was for me but I'd like to start relying on T4 more if I'm converting more efficiently. There are so many ups and downs on T3. Initially, the endo took my TBG levels (thyroid binding globulin) in addition to FT3 to see how much T3 was bound and how much was free. Now he uses total T3 to guesstimate bound T3 which I find very reasonable since TBG is a more expensive test. When I was pregnant we decided to keep me on Glucophage for PCOS during pregnancy. Imagine my surprise when I get a frantic call from his office telling me to stop Glucophage immediately. It turns out that he was on vacation and a nurse practitioner was monitoring his cases and normally all patients go off Glucophage when they become pregnant. Of course I called her back and refused and told her to check with him when he got back from vacation. I got another call that I was supposed to stay on the drug. I don't see him every time labs are drawn and didn't this time so I requested my lab results. After the mistake I mentioned I don't entirely trust his staff. Plus I wanted to see where I was myself. If FT4 was mid-high normal and Total T3 was low, I wouldn't bother with trying to reduce my T3 dose. Anyhow, I got my results back with a note from the endo " - Everything's fine. " And the results were circled with " Fine " and " Continue same " on it. I'm going to wait and see what my husband thinks (he's away for the week). He can give me a better idea of whether or not the endo might be offended. I don't want to offend my endo since I consider him the best in our area. Really, I can wait til I'm through breastfeeding before I try to reduce my Cytomel. Who knows. Maybe he was just trying to reassure me. I'll have to tell him that I'm not nearly as paranoid as I was when I was trying to get pregnant and, especially, when I became pregnant.
