Guest guest
Today we should be celebrating the independence of our country. We had a big barbecue planned with many of Jenna's friends and some of ours. But last night one of Jenna's friends got into a car with another boy who had been drinking or using drugs (we are not sure yet, or if her friend was doing either one). Her friend was in the passenger seat in the front, belted in and everything, but the driver lost control of the car as he tried to maneuver a curve, the car flipped onto its side and Jenna's friend, Mark, was killed instantly. The driver was in 7 hours of surgery and is in critical condition. He had been going at least 90 mph. Instead of her friends gathering here for a celebration, they are gathered at the site of the accident, placing flowers, singing, hugging and talking. I know this is off-topic, but I wanted to share with you because so many of us have kids who are medically fragile and have had to face the fear of losing a child at least once. Here, in a flash, a healthy 19 year old boy is gone and we will never understand why. Hug your children. Praise them. Show them every day that you love them, even if they try your patience (or pierce their tongues as my daughter did). I don't ever want to hear that one of our children has been lost to the same carelessness as this boy was. Mark, rest in peace. Jodi Z.
