hey mary-

besides a payment plan alot of hosiptals (atleast our local

hopsital) will take you financal info and then based on that you may

only have to pay a % of the bill and the rest is forgiven. you may

have to pay 20% and they forgive 80%. and then you can set up a

paymeny plan on that. most drs will accept as little as $10 a month

as long as you send them something.

also as far as car payments go dont be afraid to call your finacing

co if you are having trouble making payments. we were a 2 income

family when we bought our van (we have crapy credit so had a high

interest rate) and had a $465 a month payment!!! well when i had to

stop working due to my own health and it was cheaper and easier to

stay home with the kids we struggled to pay this. i called and

explained that we are now only a 1 incoem family-well they had me

send our finacal info to them and they dropped our payment down to

$268 a month!! that was a $200 drop they lowered our interest rate

and only extened our loan by 2 months (well worth it). i dont know

if you can do this with a mortage or since we rent but it may be

worth a try as well!!! believe i know where you are coming from!!

you cant be afraid to ask for the help that may be out there either!!

we struggled through last winter and i was embarresed at first (and

my hubby definitly didnt want to ask for help) but we had food

baskets delivered for thanksgiving, christmas, and easter through

norwescap, as well as presents for the kids!! and our elementry

school gave us help as well. nicholas received reduced lunch. we

received heat assitance and i got assistance with our electric

bill!! and when we are able to return the favor we will sponsor a

family during the holidays as well!! enough about us, i just wanted

to let people know dont be afraid to ask for help!! good luck!!

Thanks for your great note on how to save money. As a fellow

penny-pincher I loved it.

I wanted to add that another way to make money is to consign your

children's old clothes, toys, equipment. I do it twice a year and

make around $100 at each sale (and I only have one child). Last

spring I was at my friend's house and she has three young children.

She was embarassed about a huge pile of clothes in her basement her

kids had outgrown. I said I can help you clean up this mess and make

you some money. She made $300 and only spent a couple of hours

tagging items. Usually these sales are held at churches, so keep your

eye out. It is also a great place to buy used items at a fraction of

the cost.

I know that for some families $30 is truly a hardship. But probably

for most it is just a matter of cutting some corners to make Magic a

priority. Simply put, there is no way my son Jake would being doing

all he is doing without Magic. Not only is he is happy, healthy and

on the road to being 6 feet tall (ha! ha!) I am a much more sane mom

knowing this listserve is here to answer my questions and make me feel

" at home " with RSS.

Thanks again !

Alison

--Dear Alison,

Thanks for the encouragement. ANd, yes, we consign our kids clothes

for additional savings. However, with three boys, I find that by

the time it makes it to Connor and he wears it, it's pretty worn out

after that. THe only thing I consign is church clothes and special

outfits as Graham has blown the knees out of every pair of pants he

owns. Sigh. Don't you just love little boys!

Hey, did you get my last email? I was wondering how you got Jake on

a particular waiting list in Virginia when I can't even get the

health department to come out and do an assesment on Connor.

See you later!
