Guest guest
Hi Liza, A couple of questions come to mind when I read your email. Has your daughter been tested for delayed gastric emptying? Or reflux? These types of tests should be done before a tube placement is done. If you pump food into a child with delayed gastric or reflux, these problems will only get worse. What type of feeding tube is your GI talking about?? NG (Nasal Gastric runs down through the nose and is temporary) or G tube (placed through the stomach wall, and is long term)? Have you tried an NG in the past?? Has it improved weight gain?? I might try the NG (if it's never been tried) before the placement of the long term G tube. My grandson, had his G tube placed at 8.5 months of age. He, also, had a fundoplication (wrap at the top of the stomach to prevent reflux) and a pyloroplasty (loosening of the pylorus sphincter to aid gastric emptying) at the same time. At age 8.5 months, he only weighed 8#. For , the surgery saved his life. He was literally starving before our eyes, and feeding him orally was almost impossible at the time. If I can answer anything else for you, or you'd just like to chat, feel free to email me at pcpets @adelphia.net (no space) Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 32 months, 22.5#, 31.8 " , G-Tube)
