Hi Joe (I dig your last name!)....this is just my two cents, but pretty much

ALL children go through a period of liking a certain food to the exclusion of

others. Unless your child has a great deal of food sensitivities I would

think calling attention to his food choices isn't necessary. I have a

problem with the notion that any food that my child shows an interest in MUST

be something that has to be eliminated.

That said, I realize that for some children, feeding them can be a tremendous

challenge and that certain behaviors crop up when a food sensitivity is

evidenced. I mean no offense to those individuals. I just think that

sometimes we go too far in our zeal to help our kids and forget that they are

KIDS and thus are entitled to have their picadillos just like everyone else.

Our son has tested allergic to every single food so we have no choice but to

feed him things he is allergic to. We do stay away from things that are

obvious problems. We also had a problem of him not eating. I would fix

multiple meals hoping he would eat. Finally I decided, hey, he's not skinny.

Perhaps it's mean, but I am tired. If he doesn't eat what I fix then he

doesn't eat. I ask him what he wants and he will point to something or sign

something he knows, so he gets some decision in the matter, but once I cook

it, then that's it. At first he went a couple mornings without breakfast and

sometimes without dinner, but he didn't seem to mind. He didn't fuss that

much and now he eats with the rest of the family. It is a lot easier that

way. Keep in mind, if you go this route, you can never give in or the child

will always try to get the best of you.

Joe,

My daughter's diet broadened and she started eating more when she started using

digestive enzymes. Check the archives at www.yahoogroups.com for prev. posts.

A limited diet can also signal an ongoing food sensitivity, i.e. your kid may be

eating something he's sensitive to, and the result is they don't want to eat at

all. Think about the last time you had the flu and your appetite at the time.

The ideas posted by others are great (cutting back on sugars and additives).

K.
