I had RAI 4-01, and with fairly competent doctors, it took me until 2-03 to

get my old self back. There was a yo yo time when my levels just jumped

around, and felt a little hyper even though labs said I was a little hypo

(still had palpitations). Endo wanted me to try cytomel which is a T3 with

my synthroid (T4), because he didn't think I was converting my T4 into T3's,

but wanted to wait till I didn't have palpitations anymore. They finally

went away, and adding the cytomel greatly helped my over all feeling of well

being. But it was a two year process. I now watch everything that I eat

(ok, saw that oatmeal raisin cookie fly in my mouth), but I stay away from

processed foods as much as I can, stay away from sugars, and exercise

regularly. I can still get stressed out easier than I every use to. Two

weekends ago, I planted three rose bushes in African like heat (but I had to

get them in the ground), had to remove sod, enhance the soil, ect. I kept

myself well hydrated, but it took three hours, with breaks, and I was worn

out. It took me from that Saturday to the following Wednesday to feel

better. (I went to work during the time, but I sure wasn't feeling top of

the world).

Good luck getting your life back, it is a constant journey, but well worth

it. It just takes time, patience, a good doctor, and an informed patient.

If you are hypo, you will probably have a lot of muscle pain so it will

seem that your arthritis is worse.

The saying is once you get an autoimmune disease, you are more likely

to get other autoimmune diseases .

Hi ph:

The *key* thing for you is to get the tests

taken periodically...the ones that matter.

-Free T3,

-Free T4.

-To placate your doctor, also allow him to

do the almost worthless TSH.

-If possible, also get a TSI now or soon

(maybe wait on this if your eyes aren't

bothering you...but check it 2 times a

year.)

As far as your question about, are you now

likely to have worst arthritis....I *strongly suggest*

that you re-program your belief system and have

the answer as " no " or " not necessarily. "

The truth is that you can't tell if there will be more

arthritis problems...so please try not to focus more

worry on that.

When you are receiving proper treatment (medication),

I also strongly suggest that you get into an exercise

program. Exercise...weight bearing exercise...is known

to lower stress & also to reduce arthritis symptoms.

Pick an exercise you like...even if it is walking fast 3

to 4 times a week. I do power walking on the days

that I don't swim laps...and it helps my flexibility. I

also helps with weight control...and I need help in

that area.

Best to you,

Ron

Ron, Not all people with RA can do heavy exercise, so ph needs

to check with his docor on that one. Most can do your favorite

sport--swim and it's good for them.
