Guest guest
> Were any of you who are suffering from hyperthyroid > ever in denial of your illness? If so how did you come > around to an understanding that this is an illness and > you are not acting as you normally would? I can't say I was in denial about my illness but I was in denial about everything else in my life. One of the most debilitating symptoms for me was total loss of perspective. Everything assumed the proportions of a Greek tragedy and I was fully justified in ranting and raving about life. Being the mother of a large family did keep me somewhat grounded though. I think that the " thanks I needed that " slap came from an incident I don't like to discuss but it involved almost totalling my car. I got in, slammed my foot on the accelerator because I was " justifiably " angry about my kids for something, found myself doing 70 down my side street and all I can say is that this was one of those moments in life when you know that G-d's watching you because no one got hurt. I'd already turned down RAI, was working towards a healthier diet, and was between endos (my first endo unequivocally would NOT use ATDs). After that I had a much better understanding of what Graves was doing to me and I was a bit more emotionally balanced. Hang in there - within the next few months things will change, and hopefully for the much much better. Guest guest
She goes for a blood test on > Tuesday(hopefully). What is ADT? ATD is the abbreviation for anti thyroid drug. The two common ATDs are PTU and methimazole (brand name Tapazole). Members outside the US might refer to their ATD by a different name ending in " azole " but it's chemically similar. If you can check the archives from late Feb. of this year I posted a message about ATDs under the address cfyoung2@.... The article may not be perfect - I know of at least one addition I'd make - but it's a good start to organize your learning about ATDs.
