Guest guest
Hello, I found a site that describes the difference between the fillings. http://www.mynewsmile.com/natural.htm Apparently, in my case, my dentist has been replacing my silver (mercury-filled) fillings with white composites and I was not really aware of it, although I am pleased. I have to have the last remaining filling replaced anyway because it is damaged, so that replacement will completely eliminate mercury as a possible problem. I did not set out to accomplish this since it is difficult to be sure that the mercury in fillings can cause Grave's. I am now interested to see if not having any more mercury in my mouth will cause any improvement to my Grave's. How am I going to tell, though, is the question. Since I am taking antithyroid medication/Armour, and if my situation improves, it may well have nothing at all to do with the elimination of mercury, but more to the ATD's. I think of the fact that I won't have mercury in my mouth, any longer, more of a process of elimination of one of the things to consider when looking at the larger picture of fighting the disease. Guest guest
Hi , has your dentist been taking any precautions when removing the silver amalgams? I have been told by my NDs that if I have my silvers replaced with the composite that I need to make sure special precautions are taken to protect me from mercury exposure during the process... and that I will have to do some detox stuff to get what mercury there is out of my system after. One of the precautions being having to be on oxygen during the process... don't know what else. They made it seem like I wanted to be very careful about who I let do this as some are better than others at making sure I'm not exposed to the mercury as they come out. Don't know what tests there are to see if you have a higher than normal amount of mercury in your system, but it might be worthwhile to see if you do and then do some detoxing to get it out. Pam B. Guest guest
Hello, Pam B. I just found out that there is a proper procedure to follow. I do not know if my dentist followed it. I am guessing he didn't. In fact, my naturopath mentioned, yesterday, that the improper removal may have been what triggered my Grave's Disease. I would rather not think about that, to tell you the truth. It seems that I am getting a little bit irritable about the complexities of the management of this disease. (I gave up taking the antidepressant, Desipramine, because I read it should not be taken with COQ10 nor with thyroid replacement hormones. Irritability is part of the way my depression manifests.) I wanted to feel good about getting rid of all of the mercury fillings, only to find out that that is not the end of it. I am going to go ahead and have the dental work done, tomorrow, which coincidentally will eliminate the last mercury filling, and I am not going to worry about whether the proper procedure is followed. I think it is too late if the damage has already been done by past removals. If anyone has personal experience with detoxification; what tests are done and how the toxins are removed, I would appreciate knowing more about it for future consideration. Hi , Some alternative practitioners use DMPS chelation to remove mercury. It is expensive and not covered by insurance. Check mercola.com and atkinscenter.com for a little more information on DMPS. Also there is quite a few articles available at http://highwire.stanford.edu/ A few months ago someone on the list mentioned using herbs for chelation. Herbs are also mentioned on mercola.com. I haven't tried them so don't know anything more about them. I had TED and a reputable neuro-ophthalmologist wanted to do radiation treatments and surgery. I was not about to be radiated or cut on by anybody, so I started searching for something else that might help solve the problem, not just tinker with the symptoms. The D.O. I use thinks there are a number of possible triggers for GD, one of which was mercury. I had the test and had a high mercury level, so though I'd try DMPS chelation. I had improvement in my eyes starting immediately after the first treatment. After 12 treatments, the swelling is gone and my double vision is gone except for 10 to 15 minutes first thing in the morning. Except for the short period in the morning my eyes feel and look completely normal. I don't know if it would help anyone else, but it was a complete success for me. Guest guest
Hello, Berta I will have to look into having the test done for mercury levels. Due to the recent indication that my antibodies have skyrocketed, for no apparent reason, it would be good to eliminate it as a source of continuing problems. Thank you for the information.
