Hi ,

Last year was a candidate for tubes and we were all set to

schedule a surgery date when I told her ENT tht the ped said there was

a heart murmur and the ENT called her ped and told him that they

needed to have seen faster with a cardiologist so that he could

do the tubes. (This was all in June last year). Well low and behold

when we got in earlier with a cardiologist is when we found out that

she had the large hole in her heart. So this is 's first

cold/ear infection since June last year. After leaving the doctor's

office I said to my mother it looks like we'll be doing tubes soon

since she is starting pre-k October 4. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm hoping for as healthy year as possible but I know that I probably

will be down that road. I just wonder will she outgrow this soon?

My son , 4.5, had tons of ear infections but the doctor said

to wait and he might grow out of it - and he did at age 3. The

explained to me that babies have ear tubes that are flat/horizontal

and therefore they do not drain well. And, if they have nose

congestion that stuff can flow out to the ears and become infected.

As kids get older and grow (well non RSS and SGA kids anyway!) the

ear tubes tilt downward so that the stuff flows down the tubes out of

hte ears/from behind the canal. So I guess she won't grow out of it

until she grows a lot bigger!
