Guest guest
Dear Islander, Thank you for the post. So often we reply, worry, and never know what happened to the person. It is a small investment of each of us that do reply and we do care. All three treatments have equal merit, depending on the individual and there circumstances and abilities. Doctors do know this, and they also are very aware that the treatment choice of the patient is not only their legal obligation, but more importantly in the best interest of the patient. So much healing is only possible if the patient is comfortable in their own choice. Otherwise there would be no choices. The least invasive option to start is always the wisest in my opinion. The drugs will also give you time to learn more, as there is just too much to cover in the time you have right now. The hyper brain is not thinking in the way in which you are accustomed, no matter if you think it is or not. We say this because we have all been there and done that already. Since your doctor so far has seemed to prefer the RAI, it is possible he might not have a lot of experience in properly monitoring the drugs. But that is OK. You can learn enough to judge as you go along if his particular technique is right for you. To start with, before you take the first pill, you must have: TSH FREE T 4 FREE T 3 White blood count Liver profile I am assuming here you do have a proper diagnosis ? What is your diagnosis? And what was this statement based on ? -Pam L- P.S. A birder ! I am a long time casual bird watcher but recently in a new location and having the time of my life with the huge variety I have not seen before. We sit on the back deck for hours with binoculars . The groups change about every two weeks. It is so amazing. Group of quail this last week ! I'm in Oregon, BTW.
Guest guest
At least now you've heard the good and the bad of different situations and can make an informed decision for yourself. My advise is to visit a forum and read, not just one or two days worth of posts, but many. I still visit the www.thyroid.about.com website and I read the hypoT posts as well as the hyperT posts. I do not see that many hands raised that feel wonderful and aren't having problems with dealing with hypoT. While there are a few who do well, there are many who still struggle to find a dr who will give them the right medication to make them feel 100%. For some, that never happens. Just when I read how they are all getting along, then I hit the messages where people feel badly, aren't being supplemented correctly for their deficiencies, and I know that delberately making myself be hypoT is not something I want to have to endure after being hyperT. I can control the problems of hyperT better cuz I have people here who can answer questions that my dr might not answer. Once the thyroid is gone, I have no choice but what the dr offers me is the way I see it. I've not met Mr Wonderful where the dr's were concerned. :-) Sandy~Houston Original Message: ----------------- From: my_islander my_islander@... For me, this was a hard decision. While I see all
of your warnings, in the back of my mind is the fact that RAI has
been in use for many years and I haven't seen a whole lot of people
regretting the decision.

Your comments have helped me come to the conclusion that this I will
not have RAI, at least for now. If my doctor will not put me on the
drugs, I will just have to find another.

How can I represent a threat of cancer to family and pets, and my
represnt the same threat to myself? That is a powerful question.

And . You cannot imagine the impact of your story to me. Thank
you so much for posting your story and photos. I suspect that I may
have TED. My eyes are always red and I have been having a lot of
trouble focusing lately. I am a birder and recently I have not been
able to focus by binoculars at all. I have noticed that my vision
has really gone down hill lately, but was giving the upcoming
celebration of the big '50' credit for that.

Again, thanks to all of you. I will keep you posted and will be
needing lots of advice I am sure!

Yahoo!
