Guest guest
, I don't think it's pushy at all. I've noticed that when I go in for labs, if I do it locally, then it's forwarded to my dr's office, he is notorious for running FT4 and only running T3. Last time I talked to them, I found out (not sure if this is true or not) but was told that the FT3 takes longer to get the results back? But, I also intend to talk to him about it, as I think the T3 is a little unnecessary from all I read. So if that's the case, then he could just run TSH, and FT4. That is definately going to be our next conversation when I see him in person. I'm anxious to hear his explanation, but I plan on being well prepared with notes in hand cuz I forget by the time I get into see him. lol Sandy~Houston Original Message: ----------------- From: L. Hi , I don't think I've ever actually " spoken " to you before. :-) Just wanted to say that NO - your wanting the proper labs and doing what you need to do to insure that you have them done is not pushy. It's smart and being on top of your own state of health. At least that's what I'd call it, and I'm only a newbie to the whole thing. I know how hard it is to be assertive, and I try to avoid confrontation like the plague.....but I think that over the course of my own saga with Graves I'll probably have to learn to deal with those issues myself better and just suck it up, as my kids would say. :-) Not critiquing you at all......just being encouraging that you can do it and we are all here for you to cheer you on. Take care and God bless you in your journey. Have a wonderful day! " Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of a joy you must have somebody to divide it with. That's what my endo said too. She said something about the FT3 takes longer to get back, but she didn't mention she wasn't going to have it run! Is it just me or does it seem really stupid that we even HAVE to ASK for the CORRECT LABS?? Sheesh! Drives me batty! I have liked my new endo up until this little misunderstanding. But I didn't have time to go back to her office and wait 30 minutes to get a chance to talk to her about it for 5 minutes! I was already really, really late for work at that point so I sent a note voicing my dissatisfaction! Guest guest
yes, you are the paying customer. I'd be curious to know what explanation you get also for the T3. I am hoping maybe somebody can shed a little light on this difference in the length of testing on the T3 and FT3. I know that it took me quite some time, as I'd had FT3 checked, on one occasion, but for some reason the lab I used didn't forward the results of that test, although they did give me the TSH and the FT4 within 24 hours? Maybe Elaine can give us more info on it? Sandy~Houston On Wed, 17 Sep 2003 10:58:27 -0400 " L. O'Hearn " wrote:
Guest guest
From my experience, if the FT3 takes longer, the results may be in a day later or so. It's not like the TSI test, which can take a week. Guest guest
Thanks . That is interesting. I've been meaning to ask my Endo that, but I find it I don't have it written down, then I tend to forget. I dunno if anybody else has that problem, but I have it majorly bad. lol. Two nights ago I took my son to Sonic to get him a burger, fries and drink, and decided that I'd pick up something for hubby too while I was out. I was trying to order the food, had it all in my head on what I was going to order, and the kid taking the order kept interrupting me. Needless to say it irritated the devil outta me and I finally found myself telling the kid on the other end of the speaker: NOW! Let me finish my order so I can get it right, then you can ask all the questions you want. rofl. My son was so embarassed he was surely sitting there thinking: I'm NEVER going with her anyplace else again! lol. But, I can remember a time years and years ago when I'd have NEVER spoken up for myself about anything. I'd have just accepted what was handed to me and went on like a good little girl! lol. Boy! those days are sure over! It must come with age and years of being too quiet! rofl Sandy~Houston On Wed, 17 Sep 2003 11:14:52 -0400 " Conner, Psy.D. Guest guest
Hi and Sandy, My experience has been that if the FT3 is in a range consistent with the FT4, which mine is, then I don't need to run it too often. My endo does want to do it every once in a while, just to be sure--but I think it's the fact that it costs a bit more than some of the other tests that deters a lot of docs. I've heard again and again, that that's the reason and that total T3 is " good enough " because free costs so much. Guest guest
Sandy, Life has forced you to become assertive. Life required it, and so you have learned. That is a good thing :-) At 11:21 AM 9/17/2003, you wrote: >But, I can remember a time years and years ago when I'd have NEVER >spoken up for myself about anything.
