Guest guest
Datreon has had some trouble with blood sugar lately, and next wednesday he will be getting tubes in his ears. It will be about 5 hours total that he cannot eat or drink, should he have an IV during the procedure, or should I just have a bottle ready when he wakes up? Any advice would be great! Thanks, le mom to Datreon 26in, 15lb 2oz
Guest guest
Hi le, When we had 's tubes put in, we also did a partial adnoidectomy and partial tonsillectomy. First, was scheduled to be the first surgery of the morning due to the same issues. Second, we kept him on his pump through part of the night and then switched his pump to pedialite for extra fluid/sugar until about 3 hours before surgery. They put on an IV during surgery and got his pump hooked back up as soon as possible after surgery. Good luck, Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 4 1/2 year old twins

Guest guest
I would say yes, definately havee them do the iv - especially with the recent his history of the blood sugars. When my son just recently had his tonsills and adenoids out - they put him out with gas, then started the IV - less trauma - when he woke up - it was done. Although - maybe, since Datreon eats, you want to consider admission prior to surgery for IV fluids? Either way - definately have them monitor his blood sugars. Did you get the anesthesia articles from MAGIC? I brought those with me to the surgeon and he passed them on the anesthesiologists. Good Luck! Guest guest
Hi, For the first set of tubes Emerence had at 9 mo they forgot to tell us to bring CLEAR liquids and we brought milk. They may allow formula. Be warned some kids come out of this very combative and aggressive until they are fully awake (it took Emerence 1/2 hr) and the first time was awful (screaming, hitting, unfocused eyes). The second went much better. B oth times though she wanted to eat and drink right away. , 4.5 and Emerence SGA, mild RSS 20 mo 18lb 11 oz ,28.5 " > Datreon has had some trouble with blood sugar lately, and next wednesday he > will be getting tubes in his ears.
