Guest guest
Hello Everyone, We are having trouble with Mila's reflux and I am hoping to gain some wisdom from you all before we see her Doctor. She has been on Zantac since she was 6 months old and until recently, it seemed to control the reflux nicely. However, over the last month she has been waking up and vomiting approx. 1 hr after going to sleep. She hasn't done this for years. She is now 31/2 years old, 20 lbs and is on 1.5 ml twice a day. I am going to ask if her dosage needs to be increased. I was wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone? I was also wondering about alternatives to Zantac? If I remember correctly some children are using another reflux med. I would appreciate any advice/ experience you might have! Thanks, Jana
Guest guest
My daughter took Prevacid to control her reflux. However, we no longer are on any med for reflux because at 3 1/2 she had her tonsils and adnoids out. To look at her tonsils and adnoids through her mouth they were a normal size. The doctor said when he got in to remove them they were huge for her size. At the time of surgery she was weighing 18 pounds. The doctor also said that there was a build up of infection behind her tonsils that would not have been caught if they were not removed. Just something to look into. --Amy > > Hello Everyone, > > We are having trouble with Mila's reflux and I am hoping to gain > some wisdom from you all before we see her Doctor. > > She has been on Zantac since she was 6 months old and until > recently, it seemed to control the reflux nicely. Guest guest
Hi Jana, We found that over a long period of time, Zantac became less effective at controlling 's reflux. We took a Zantac break, and tried a PPI (prevacid) instead. For a while this worked, but then it too seemed to become less effective, and is now back on Zantac in the mornings, and Prevacid in the evenings. The combination has worked better than either drug alone. Also, was 22.5# at his last weight check, and his Zantac dosage is 3.9mls. Hope this helps Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 33 months, 22.5#, 31.8 " , G-Tube)
Guest guest
Jana, My son Henry has been on reflux meds for almost 1 year and they certainly make a difference for him. He takes 10ml of liquid Prilosec in the morning and 4ml of Zantac in the evening. Since he has a g-tube the liquid compound works very well into his routine. Henry - 4yrs - 32lbs, 39 1/2in, RSS, Prilosec, Periactin, Benefiber, Zantac, Peptamen Jr., Nutropin -8yrs - 45lbs, 49in,nonRSS
