Guest guest
Howdy Folks, For all you wise one's who've been there, done that, and wrote the t- shirt, I need some advice on Periactin. Presently, Connor is having the nutritional catch up growth spurt mentioned by Dr.H. How long does this growth spurt last? Mind you he is still three standard deviation points below normal on the growth chart, but tracking mid-line for an RSS male. We got the flu shot the other day and his stats were, 18 lbs 10 oz. Oops, I can't find the length (it's dark in here as my husband is still sleeping). His head circumfrence is in the 30%. Developmentally, right on target and ahead of schedule on some things. At convention, according to Dr. H. Connor's stats looked great. We were within the ideal weight for height measure. His weight was 12% to his height. She said he had good fat stores, but wanted to increase his periactin dose to compensate for his weight gain from last year. Apparently, our GI doc never upped his dose as he grew. Now, what's been going on lately is that Connor is eating quite well, thank you very much. This eating is not stimulated by the periactin because for the week after convention as I was giving it to him, it would knock him out half an hour after taking it. He would sleep through the time to eat. He also didn't have any catch up eating. Well, one day, I didn't give it to him. Connor ate so much that day I was shocked. Two helpings of hamburger helper. Mashed potatoes and gravey, etc. Compared to a normale child he's still eating small, but compared to an RSS child, he looks positively piggy (in the positive sense of the word). SOOOOOOO, do I put him back on the periactin anticipating that the fat stores he's accumulated will disappear when we start gh, or do I leave what I think is a good thing alone. Oh, did I mention that in addition to the food, Connor is getting three bottles of Pediasure daily. I know this is weird, but for two years I've worried that Connor wasn't getting enough food. Now, I'm trying to calculate if we need to fatten him up more, or stay at our present velocity which is occuring naturally. Oh BTW, , have you tried putting straight liquid detergent on the Destin stains. It seems to me that barrier cream is primarily an oil based compound and detergent eats at oil. Just a thought. Now if it's zinc oxide, I haven't got a clue as to what will dissolve that. Well, actually I do, acid based cleaning products but since you're trying to preserve the carpet and clothes I don't think acid is your answer. May be you should invest in a strategically placed throw rug? Wait a minute, try vinegar and baking soda. It breaks down and bubbles up stains. Obviously, try the clothes first. Hope all is well with your precious one! Mom to Graham 7 (ADD); Cameron 4; Connor IUGR, RSS, Periactin, assymetry, kyphosis.
Guest guest
Hi , Sorry for the delay in answering. Sometimes my son seems to do better without periactin than with it. However, over the long term periactin helps. What we have found is that periactin works ok, but not great. Growth hormone works ok but not great at stimulating his appetite but in comabination they work better than each does seperately (synergy). So, based on our experience, I would restart periactin when you start growth hormone. Also, what seems to work sometimes is a periactin holiday. We took our son off for about 3 weeks and then put him back on and it worked great for a while. Hope this helps Ken M > > Howdy Folks, > > For all you wise one's who've been there, done that, and wrote the t- > shirt, I need some advice on Periactin. > > Presently, Connor is having the nutritional catch up growth spurt > mentioned by Dr.H.
