Guest guest
hi heather! i dont know your financial situation but maybe you would qualifiy for SSI benefits and along with that you will receive medicad for her. christopher gets ssi based solely on his rss (i know others who have applied as well and were denied but it is worth a try, plus if you are denied you can appeal) also most hospitals have a finacial program based on your income where you may only have to pay 20% of the bill. it's worth looking into. also when she turns 3, atleast here in nj, the school district would be responsible for any early intervention if she qualifies. call the school about having her tested. christopher attends the preschool disabled program at our school for free and receives OT there. good luck!!! jodie c. -- In RSS-Support , heatherzietz@a... wrote: > Hi everyone- > > It has been a while so here is a quick update. Guest guest
, As a few others have already responded, once Laikyn turns three your school system should help with PT, OT, issues. Also, in terms of help with medical bills you should look into your state's medicaid waiver program. Every state has one, but each is run differently. It is a " waiver " because it waives certain qualifications to enter the medicaid program (ie. financial income of parents, etc.). I'll do a search for ND and let you know what I find. Guest guest
, Here is a link regarding Medicaid Waivers in ND: http://www.state.nd.us/humanservices/services/medicalserv/medicaid/waiver.html This should give you a start. In my state (Virginia) what happens is the individual would apply for the waiver and if accepted that person gets waiver services (ie. respite care, etc.) plus automatically receives Medicaid. It is not based on parent's income. If the child qualifies for the waiver, they become an independent entity, therefore not financially linked to the parent. So, the parents income does not count against them. Then the child has his/her parent's health insurance as a primary insurance, but then medicaid comes in where they leave off, hopefully minimizing all out of pocket expenses for the parent. Each state runs this differently, but all states have a waiver program. I could go on and on, we just won a three year battle. So, please feel free to ask me questions. I am very passionate about this issue. I would be happy to help in any way. Alison > > Hi everyone- > > > > It has been a while so here is a quick update.
