Guest guest
Just wanted to thank you all for all the good info and for the blessings too. No matter how much research one does, the best educators are those who live and breath it everyday. For two and a half years i have wondered two things. One, why are my thyroid panels normal and two, just plain old WHY. Believe it or not both questions have been answered. I hadn't heard of euthyroid before and now that I have researched it a little, everything seems a little more logical to me. One question on blood tests. Is the " sensitive TSAb " a routine test or something I have to insist on having done? Now for the " just why " question. I am a lab tech in an aluminum plant and needless to say I work with a wide range of chemicals. Well, I thought for sure that one of those bad boy chemicals had to be the cause of my GO. Couldn't find any proof to back up my theory so I gave up wondering why(too stressfull). Its amazing how the Good Lord answers your questions when He thinks you are ready. Yesterday I read the sample excerpts from Elaines new book and she mentions that interferon can induce GD. In 2000 I spent 7 months on interferon. In May 2001 I started seeing double. Could that have been the root of this horrible disorder?? I never connected the two together, you would think my Endo would. One last question. Is there a good website that discusses this? I see my Endo next week and I would like to be able to talk to him about it. I will find out thursday if my surgery is a go. My eye doc won't do it unless he feels it is necessary and thats a good thing. Again, thanks for the support and God bless you all.
Guest guest
Hi , Interferon is well known for causing the production of thryoid antibodies. That's why many people treated with interferon for hepatitis end up with Graves' disease. Postgraduate Medicine Journal had several good articles on GD several years ago. find their website and do a search. Also, check out Thryoid Manager, the online thyroid book...they have a section on the causes of GD. The test is stimulating TSH receptor antibodies....sorry if I said sensitive TSH receptor antibodies. More and more doctors order it routinely today, but many doctors still are unclear on the whole auotimmune nature of GD and TED. You really want both blocking and stimulating antibody levels. so ask for a test for total TSH receptor antibodies or TBII. Since you're euthyroid you likely have high amounts of both of these antibodies. Take care, elaine
