This is a Limited Appointment position. Limited Appointments have less than a total of 1,000 working hours (about 5 months). This position has the likelihood of being extended. CalAgrAbility is part of a nation-wide network of agricultural safety and rehabilitation programs housed at land-grant universities. The mission of CalAgrAbility is to help individuals working in agriculture that have permanent conditions or injuries that hinder their efforts to continue working on farms. CalAgrAbility works with farmers, farm workers, farm families of all nationalities, ages, ethnicities, whether monolingual or bilingual. Assistance is provided to everyone regardless of his or her injuries or disabilities. Other consumers include the broader community and service agencies that serve the same consumer-base.Some conditions are common, such as arthritis, low vision, hearing loss, or mobility problems. Others injuries are more serious, such as amputations or spinal injuries. CalAgrAbility is a bilingual program. The project goal is to examine problems at farm sites and in homes and to offer rural consumers (clients) potential solutions for dealing with conditions that make it difficult for farmers and farm workers to continue work in agriculture. A solution may consist merely of rearranging a work site, changing how tasks are done, or modifying equipment. CalAgrAbility staff offers direct service to all individuals and families working in agriculture to help eliminate barriers for those with disabilities and injuries. Responsibilities: This position works as part of a bilingual (Spanish/English) agricultural rehabilitation service delivery team to arrange and deliver services that will enhance consumers (rural residents in agricultural areas) opportunities to continue working in agriculture. Requirements: Bilingual/fluency in Spanish and English. Knowledge of the structure and content of both English and Spanish language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation. Skills to effectively communicate in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience; communicating with others to convey information effectively; persuade others to change mind or behavior. Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of physical disabilities. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact daily with members of the community and program affiliates in a professional, positive, service-oriented manner and consistent with the philosophy of the program. Experience administering a program for disabled individuals/families or experience assisting with such a program. Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and effectively manage the program. Skills to operate independently, solve problems, and make programmatic decisions. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: (a) field-based evaluation projects, ( rehabilitation counseling, © teaching experience or presentations at professional conferences, or (d) undergraduate teaching, supervising, and/or mentoring experience. Experience using computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and electronic mail. Special Conditions of Employment: Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions. Non smoking work environment. Overnight Travel required. Valid CA driver’s license required. Work hours outside standard 8AM-5PM schedule. Work occasional evenings/nights. Work occasional weekends and holidays. Some work includes farmsite visits in various weather and terrain conditions. Physical Requirements: Position requires lifting up to 30 lbs.
