There are many, many success stories and discussion on the enzymesandautims message board. About 1/3 of the members on not on the GFCF diet, 1/3 are partially, and 1/3 are 100% GFCF: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/enzymesandautism Also, there is a document on troubleshooting and initial effects you may see that may be helpful when you are starting out. It is in the Files section of the enzymesandautism board, but here is the direct link, you will probably need to piece it together because it is so long: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/enzymesandautism/files/Problems%20with% 20Enzymes%20and%20Troubleshooting/Side%20Effects%20and% 20Troubleshooting%20Guide . Guest guest
That is what 4Life Transfer Factor did for my son and the cost is very reasonable. We have noticed so many changes on TF that the Dev. Ped. requested articles and information on the product. She was very impressed with the results in such a short period of time. My child no longer needs speech therapy. You must also realize what works for one, might work not work for you. Every child is different, their medical issues and genetics are so different and fragile that some products might not be the best for them. I was very skeptical at first, but am pleased that I tried one bottle. Sharon

Guest guest
The web site for Peptizyde and Zyme Prime is www.houstonni.com. These have given the 3 of us excellent results. We have tried two other enzymes products besides these. EnzymAid was only marginally helpful and we still had reactions to very small amounts of casein (1/2 slice cheese), whereas my boys each had 2 large slices of cheese pizza and an ice cream cone with 1 Peptizyde with no negative reaction whatsoever. They take capsules so taste isn't an issue. The " smell " is a very characteristic one of active enzymes. As always, one product may work for one person and not for another. These enzymes are still pretty new, so it probably hasn't made it into the DAN protocol. However, I have heard from some of her clients that Dr. Amy Holmes is recommending it to her patients. I believe she follows the DAN protocol. Digestive enzymes are used to override or compensate for some of the effects that heavy metals may produce. There is research in the ASD community that the metals inhibit a body's natural enzymes. It will be a topic at the next DAN conference so this indicates to me that they feel it is an important up-and- coming issue. Kirkman's has also done a study and posted data with the remarks that certain enzyme products show marked improvement in autistic spectrum children who are GFCF as well as not on the diet. " The results of this 12 week parent judged study (evaluation forms were completed every two weeks and submitted to the ARI) indicated that moderate to SIGNIFICANT improvement was noted in function and behavior of the participants. This included both those who were liberally eating gluten and casein containing foods as well as those utilizing a strict GF/CF diet. " There was a study done with SerenAid with autistic children with showed marked improvement with that product. Here is the url with comments by Dr. Wakeman: http://www.serenaid.com/pilotstudy.html His closing comment is " This enzyme should be at the forefront of each physicians armamentarium for the autistic syndrome. " Peptizyde is the refined and updated version of SerenAid. It is streamlined to target the gluten/casein/soy problem. Kirkman's has also notified me that they have a very stong effort underway in making more effective enzyme products. So the concept of using digestive enzymes as part of your ASD treatment program is there, if not completely itemized in the DAN protocol. And it looks like digestive enzymes will continue to be taking a more prominant position in the upcoming months. It is wonderful that there are so many options for us parents to use. My two boys have different symptoms, so having just one protocol or treatment program would have to be broad enough to encompass all the differences. Many parents are finding new improvements in their children with Peptizyde/Zyme Prime (and probably lots of others) that weren't there after trying many other avenues. This can open up many new possibilities for those that are looking for them. .
