Guest guest
How about bamboo? I use that to steam. I also agree that steaming is better than boiling. a > I'm of the belief that steaming veggies is better than boiling them. Anybody > care to comment? Guest guest
Yes, steaming is much better nutrient-wise than boiling. (Possible exception: if you use the vegetable cooking water in your soup broth. The vegetables you eat wouldn't be as vitamin-rich, but perhaps the vitamins would be in the soup stock.) You can steam in glass in a microwave. You can also buy a steamer that has wire rather than lots of metal, or enameled metal, or stainless steel. Personally, I have used all three and never even thought of using plastic. Given that some autism clusters are near plastics manufacturers, I think I would avoid the plastic as much as I would avoid aluminum.. Guest guest
I'm way behind in reading posts so someone may have offered my suggestion, sorry if it's a duplicate. Go to your local asian market and ask them for a rice steamer. It's a wicker basket that sits on top of a pot where the water boils. It works great for rice and vegetables. I know I spent less than $5.00 on it. Guest guest
I cannot tell you how efficient and quick a pressure cooker is. We cook all our vegetables for jake in about 2 mins without losing any of the nutrients. Just to give you an idea how quick it is i can cook 5 ears of corn in 3 mins! I had a bamboo steamer but it fell apart and i didnt know what kind of glue they used and it was very hard to clean, also the staples rusted. andy > > I found a stainless steel pan at a yard sale that > > had a pan that fit on top, > > like a double boiler only with holes in the bottom > > to steam vegetables > > __________________________________________________ >
