Vicks VapoRub

My son has a cough (1st mild cold since starting diet), and I rubbed

some Vicks VapoRub on his chest this morning. This is not a product

we have used very much (I bought some a long time ago for nostalgia's

sake since my mom used to use it) but I thought what the heck.

Maybe 15 minutes later he was a wild man--the worst behavior we have

seen in a very long time, certainly since well before starting the

diet approx. 6 weeks ago. He began hitting, kicking, pinching and

spitting on me because we had to leave the house and pick up his

sister.

Vicks is gluten free but perhaps there's something in it that my son

can't handle (or maybe this was a coincidence?). I called the

company and got all active and inert ingredients:

Camphor, Menthol, Eucalyptus Oil, Nutmeg Oil, Special petrolatum,

thymol, spirits of terpentine.

Just thought I would pass this along since his reaction was EXTREME!

His behavior changed back after about 10-15 minutes and he has been

okay ever since. Also, if anyone can speculate as to what ingredient

might have caused this, I'd be most grateful since we will try to

avoid it. Needless to say, we're not using Vicks again.

Yep, it looks GFCF. But under the Feingold diet we do also, the spirits of

turpetine and the special petrolium would be big no-no's. Maybe that could

have been what effected him. My son has horrible reactions to over the

counter meds and we try to avoid them. Have to have's are done by a

compounding pharmasict. Donna
