Guest guest
1. Everyone agrees that the enzymes might be a good thing ALONG with the diet. Because of this, the subject belongs to this group as well as to other specialised groups. 2. SOME think that the enzymes COULD " solve the problem " entirely, and leave the patient free to go off the diet completely. * There is a vast amount of experience that indicates that this is certainly not valid for EVERYONE, * There is still the possibility that it could work for SOME. 3. All of us are free to do the experiments that they want to, and to report the effects here. However, I must advise EVERYBODY to use extreme caution before making generalisations from their own or from other people's experience. * The people who go off the GFCF diet because the enzymes seem to do the job alone, may in fact be misunderstanding thir own observations entirely, landing their children in a quagmire of problems that could have been solved if they had remained strictly GFCF. Nobody will ever know what these children's true potential could have been. * On the other hand, they may be be entirely correct about their observations AND interpretations, but that does NOT mean that any other children will (be likely to) behave the same way. 4. Only systematic long term study, using objective observation criteria and comparisons with control groups can say anything at all about the general validity of the advice given about enzymes, along with or without a GFCF diet. Our own study, the GFCFkids diet survey (at www.gfcfdiet.com) will help us a little way along the road towards a better understanding of these problems. 5. In the mean time: Think for yourselves. Move cautiosly. Observe closely. Write your observations down. Make sure that you understand the time delay problems, and the little signs and symptoms that may indicate that the beneficial effects that you see, are actually an inverse reaction, marking the start of a bad period (or the other way round). Be careful about your interpretation ! Analyse the risks, and proceed cautiously. 6. Share your observations with others, through this list and through the GFCFkids diet survey. While doing so, remember that you are not missionaries, bound by higher powers to convince everybody else about the rightness of your beliefs. When somebody behaves in that way, let us try to discourage them privately: Beliefs and counter-beliefs are catchy things, and have set off numerous wars over the years. We don't want to waste too much attention on them, and we don't want another war here. Yours sincerely n Klaveness
