Guest guest
When I first started giving Melatonin to Evan, I read that if the melatonin does not work after awhile do not give more but take a break from it for awhile. Are you using Kirkman melatonin? Theirs is gfcf and has magnesium. Maybe she needs the magnesium. I had to start giving that to Evan to keep him asleep after the melatonin put him to sleep. She should not have built up too much melatonin in just 3 weeks it would seem. I would wonder what else was added to the melatonin. Guest guest
I talked to a nutrionist who stated that my son could not 'RID' the melatonin from his system. If I gave it to him at night he would fall asleep but he would have a hang over the next day-quiet and groggy. The same way with any type of over the counter that makes other children sleepy my son does the opposite (for example, Benedryl, cold/cough medicine). We are having a REALLY hard time with a multivitamin as the B's must be wounding him up. We have tried Super Nu Thera, Poly ViSol, Thorne Basic Nutrient..... anyone out there with suggestions??? He has been going to be at 11:45 pm and getting up at 6:30 am....... Sleep deprived...... __________________________________________________
Guest guest
My daughter has always had sleep problems, she never slept through the night even one time until the age of 4 when they put her on risperdal at bedtime. About 5 months ago, she is now almost 8, we decided we wanted her off the medication. For sleep we tried melatonin and it would put her to sleep but not keep her asleep. I have heard this from many parents, so I'm not sure what your nutritionist is talking about waking up groggy from melatonin. What we found for is that the lowest dose we could find of melatonin ( .5 mg ) worked so long as we added magnesium at 250 mg. to it. Recently she started waking up too early again so we upped the magnesium to 400 mg. and it worked like a charm. I hope this helps. With the B vitamin problems you are having- be careful not to give them after 3 PM in the afternoon and maybe your child needs a lower dose than the packaging is calling for. has done wonderful on the Super-Nu-Thera on 2/3 the dose that is called for at her age/weight. If we try to raise it to the 6 pills a day she gets really hyper, so we stick with 4. Also we have her on GABA, which seems to have helped tremendously with hyperness. re: Melatonin > I talked to a nutrionist who stated that my son could > not 'RID' the melatonin from his system. Guest guest
We love Kirkman's and use them for a lot of supplements, but I have to tell you I found some melatonin at Walmart ( I think ) by Nature's Bounty that is guaranteed free of yeast, wheat, gluten, milk or milk derivatives, lactose, sugar, preservatives, artificial flavor and sodium. It has 180 tablets, 90 plus 90 free, for about five dollars! > > Are you using Kirkman melatonin? > > All the supplements we use are from Kirkman. Guest guest
No, we did not have a hard time at all. We did however take it slow because she had been on it for so long, almost 4 years. We had her on the liquid because the tablets contain lactose, so reducing it by small increments was not difficult at all. She had no reaction to weaning her off either, but we added the GABA slowly as we weaned the risperdal. re: Melatonin > > > > > I talked to a nutrionist who stated that my son could > > > not 'RID' the melatonin from his system. Guest guest
, Did you have a hard time weaning your daughter off Risperdal? My son (6) is on Risperdal and I'd like it to be short term if possible. Thanks, JoAnne renee schlotzhauer wrote: > My daughter has always had sleep problems, she never slept through the night > even one time until the age of 4 when they put her on risperdal at bedtime. > About 5 months ago, she is now almost 8, we decided we wanted her off the > medication. Guest guest
Melatonin has never made Evan quiet and groggy the next day. Nor his brothers. Benedryl will make Evan sleepy but it makes his 5 yo brother bounce off the wall. But then the two of them have different issues. We have not yet got a proper dx for the 5 yo. We have the ever present dx of ADHD but it may be bipolar instead. Have you tried magnesium for him? it helped Evan sleep through the night. re: Melatonin > I talked to a nutrionist who stated that my son could > not 'RID' the melatonin from his system. Guest guest
We use it for our daughter occasionally and it really works. But I tried it last night...1 mg and I was wired! It was as if I had ingested caffeine. So I wonder it that could be what is happening to your daughter? Just a thought!
