Guest guest
Oops...sorry for empty email... Muscle cramps are usually a hypothyroid symptom...but our symptoms are not always black and white. I wouldn't think that you are hypo already, after only a week on Methimazole. As suggested, try some bananas or potassium supplements. God bless,
Guest guest
Del and anyone else with active hyper, Since your MMI has not yet had time to work, this is the 'worse before it get's better' stage. Hyper causes calcium loss from our bones, faster than it can be replaced, as the body fights to survive in unfavorable conditions. Lack of adequate calcium levels causes leg and foot cramps, the night time being when they are most often noticed. This also happens in women that are pregnant, as their body gives calcium to the new baby. So now you will understand ONE thing, if ever you know a pregnant lady. ;-) The normal dose for hyper women is 1,500mg calcium. Taken in three 500 mg. doses each day, as the body can not use more than 500 mg. at one time. If more is taken in one dose, the excess is eliminated in the urine. Calcium must have magnesium and vita. D to be properly absorbed. Any extra magnesium in pill from, made ME more tired. Apparently I have enough in my diet. So what I did was take Calcium with vita. D in the morning and afternoon, and then calcium with mag. and D at night. This did help my sleeping , and I still fall back on it anytime I find sleep elusive. When you purchase calcium tablets, be sure to avoid the ones derived from oyster shell, as those have a high amount of iodine in them, which contributes to Graves' antibody increases and more hyper. Since your cramps only just began, I will guess the added calcium should help in a very short time. Possibly only a day or two, until you can sleep without the cramping. But do not stop the tablets , as this is your warning that the hyper has been affecting your bones for some time now. Do not add extra dairy in an attempt to increase calcium, as dairy is full of iodine. -Pam L- 3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission since Jan. 28th. 2002 ! Key: SLOW reduction of PTU (despite an incompetent endo ! ), eight hour dosing, labs every 4 weeks, improved lifestyle, REAL food/ no processed pre-made food, herbs, and looking at the big picture. Triggers are: MSG/any 'flavorings', glutamates ,aspartame, pesticides, high iodine foods. _____________________________________________________ Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal. _____________________________________________________ * " What a long, strange, trip it's been " ...Jerry ....
