Guest guest
Hello Families Network! Late last night, the N.J. Senate unanimously passed S2604, the legislation that will reallocate the burden of proof to school districts in special education due process hearings. Congratulations to all of you, this is an amazing victory! Each of you played an important role in this effort. Over fifty of you shared a personal story relating to this issue which we compiled and sent to all the legislators. More than ten of you showed up to testify at the legislative hearings on this bill. And more than 200 of you called and/or emailed your legislators asking for their support. It is that kind of collective action that makes the Family Advocacy Program a powerful voice for positive change. In fact, as late as last Friday, we were hearing reports that we were going to have trouble getting the bill passed. Without your message, which was made LOUD and CLEAR, this legislation definitely would not have gone through! You should also know that this bill faced real opposition, from organizations that typically have an enormous amount of political power. What we have accomplished here is truly incredible! We will follow-up with the Governor's office to ensure that he signs this bill into law. Thank you for your commitment to taking action and all your wonderful advocacy. I feel incredibly fortunate to be working with such an amazing group of families!
