Guest guest
Hi Gail When I started taking Methimaloze (sp?) I was very itchy too. I was warned from my endo that that might happen. So I am sure that it is just a side effect with PTU also. Deanna > I'm being treated with PTU for Graves Disease. Does anyone know if > PTU contains sulfa? Guest guest
Thanks for your response. Can you tell me how long the itchiness will last, I'm going nuts. I itch from head to toe. I was itchy throughout active Graves, including before I went on PTU. I am now in remission for Graves, off of PTU again, and may have Hashimoto's. I'm still itchy. -Jill
Guest guest
Boy that's depressing. Not only feeling like crap from all the other Graves symptoms, now I have to live with the itching too. This disease sucks. Ha! > > I'm being treated with PTU for Graves Disease. Does anyone know if > > PTU contains sulfa? Guest guest
I don't know what my ranges are. I am with a HMO and the Endo told me my levels are severely high (her words). I currently take 150 mg 3 times a day of PTU with 100mg Atenolol. My first blood test is on Oct 17th. I had itching with a mild rash before I was diagnosed, but now its only itching all over. Thanks. Gail > Hi Gail, > > Often the itching goes away after a while on the PTU. Sometimes it's caused by being on too high a dose, however. It would help if you posted your dosage and recent lab work, with the ranges. Sometimes doctors don't realize they need to start decreasing your dose. > > best wishes, > > > > From: gail_salcedo > To: graves_support > Sent: Wednesday, October 08, 2003 10:01 AM > Subject: PTU > > > I'm being treated with PTU for Graves Disease. Guest guest
Thanks everybody for your advice. You'll be happy to know that I started reading this group before I even saw the Endo. I told her my first visit that I didn't want RAI. Based on everything you all said, I will go this Friday and get my blood tested to see whats going on. I do wonder now if my PTU is too high, because not only am I itchy but my legs are so weak and hurt so bad. I also have another autoimmune disease which is Crohn's Disease (an inflammatory bowel disease) and I worry that the Graves will trigger the Crohn's because of the frequent bathroom visits. I hope I start feeling better soon. Thanks again for your advice. Gail
