Guest guest
My son was constipated before the GFCF diet . When we removed dairy we saw a noticable difference and when we removed gluten he became very regular (every day or every other day) and normal stools. I would take him off of the stool softener. He should not need it if he's on the GFCF diet. Good Luck!!! Guest guest
My son went gfcf all at once, so I can't say that one aspect of the diet did it, but his swings from constipation to diarrhea (probably overflow) ended quite promptly. Another child who lived with us for a time had chronic, severe constipation (daily meds, frequent enemas), and that ended during the first week with us. (We have a gfcf household.) The condition returned within a few weeks of resuming a " standard " diet. > Hello, > > We have been cf for 3 months, then went gf. Our son has been treated for > constipation all along. Guest guest
We saw no improvement with the diet and constipation. What is currently working for us is using a probiotic called Perfect Stool Plus and Ojibwa Tea. You can get both from http://www.ojibwatea.com We tried 1/4 tsp. 3 times a day mixed with O.J. for 10 days with no success, then we upped the amount to 1/2 tsp. 3 times a day and started seeing changes. Behavior got a lot worse during this time (I was told due to yeast die-off) but is now starting to improve and he is more regular now (every 1 - 2 days). We're dropping down to giving it twice a day and see if things continue to go well. It should help with diarrhea as well. -------- ??? GF and diarrhea Hello, We have been cf for 3 months, then went gf. Our son has been treated for constipation all along. At this point we are seeing loose stools ... barely making it to the bathroom. He has been on aggressive constipation management (stool softeners, etc.) Does the gf diet relieve constipation or maybe something else? Has others seen constipation being relieved with the gf diet? Please share your experiences. Thanks
Guest guest
My youngest never had regular or smooth BMs until 7 1/2 years old. He was constipated, diarrhea, or somewhere irregularly inbetween. And the smell was horrible. Another poster mentioned her son being " off " all the time and finally got it regulated by using 3 Culturelles given throughout the day (they eventually added one ProBio Gold to add different strains). So we gave 3 Culturelles throughout the day and he " got regular. " I tried backing down to 1 after 1 month, but he regressed, so back to 3 we went. Since starting enzymes (1 Petizyde and 1 Zyme Prime at ANY meal), we went to 2 Culturelles with no regression and this got rid of the smell. I plan on trying going to 1 in a week or so. . Guest guest
My son never had diarrhea. It was always constipation. He now goes every day or every other day. All stools are nicely formed. It started within 3 weeks of the diet. a > Hello, > > We have been cf for 3 months, then went gf. Our son has been treated for > constipation all along. I am not doing anything for constipation right now so I would have to assume it's the diet. I don't think you need to manage constipation on the diet. Just my opinion. Guest guest
Oh yes! had terrible constipation since coming to us at 8 months. And huge when he did go! Things have straightened out now. Also saw your post on Dr. L. If you are using NTV-D try stopping the enzymes. Works for us. & Garry, parents of (10 ds), (9 ds), JJ (7 ds/autism/celiac), (6 ds/ADHD/Celiac), and Esther (4 ds). All adopted.
Guest guest
Definately! If I eat gluten, I'm constipatated. If I stay on the diet I'm fine. ??? Since then his stools have been hovering between extremely soft and diarrhea. I was hoping going gfcf would improve them, but after 3 months, it hasn't. We went to a GI doctor who found the bug " blastocystis hominus " in his stools. We're now on our third round of meds to treat it, and no improvement yet. You may want to have a stool study done. At the DAN conference, they said that b. hominus was very common in autistic kids. Good luck- Sue
