Guest guest
I was interested in hearing what anyone who attended the DAN conference in Atlanta thought of it? I attended the DAN conference last September in San Diego and am seriously considering going again this fall. I was especially wanting to know if people think that it was worthwhile and informative. I got a lot out of last fall's conference but didn't know if new info would be presented this year. Thanks for any and all feedback or thoughts. Guest guest
My husband and I attended the recent Atlanta DAN conference. It was our first one and we thought we might be in over our heads on some of the lectures. But that wasn't the case. We read and study a lot and were able to follow most all of what they were discussing. What we didn't expect was the huge amount of emotion we felt being around so many people in similar situations as ours. (We have 4 year old autistic twins). It was so nice to speak with doctors who were sympathetic and understanding. Our case here is more like defending what we do with the twins as far as the diet, supplements, etc. Not many of the other parents in our area have children on the GFCF so I guess we didn't realize how isolated we felt until we got to the conference. We thought it was a wonderful learning and supportive experience. We came home recharged, so to speak, about new therapies to try, new variations of the diet (the twin's diet are very limited-they react to everything it seems except pears, chicken, lamb, potatoes, green beans, rice and spinach and still eat only a baby food consistency). If we can do it again in September, we'll be at the conference in October in a heartbeat. dwpittard
Guest guest
Hi , My opinion about this is that there is so much to learn at these conferences and so much to take in. I find that after two conferences I attended, i walked away with one really important step up in my understanding about one large topic. When I go back and look at my old notes, i realize how much i couldnt even take in then and now understand what they are talking about so much better, now that I am living even more of it in context. For example, at last DAN confernce I walked a way knowing that i had the peptide and OAT test i had to go home and do, that I had to try the diet and that my kid probably had multiple nutritional deficiencies. More was discussed than this but that was all I could take in. My sons Dr had us do some other tests and the other day i went back in my notes and one of the immunologists had talked about Mylen Basic Protein autiantibodies for example and I remembered nothing of this. Now I know of its significance and what it means. Now it is in better context for me. there is still so much to learn and better understand about what is going on inside my childs body and how I can help balance that out. So, if you can get there and afford to go, my vote is to not miss this wonderful opportunity to take an unexpected step forward in your understanding, and go.
