Guest guest
Hi all, First, thanks for all the ideas regarding getting Becca to take medicine. Last night we tried a different brand and flavor and that seemed to do the trick (let's hope it lasts). A funny story... When we saw Dr H last week she was very upset that (RSS age 4 1/2) was not potty trained. We had been trying off and on and getting nowhere so we had given up. After the appointment we decided to start trying again. So, off with the pull-ups and on with the underwear. Well, really was not into this. He would get upset if he wet himself, but wouldn't try for the potty unless he was in the mood for M & M's (our standard potty bribe - I don't know, it worked with his sister lol). Anway, the children are home right now between camp and school. Steve was home with them yesterday. Steve and are both two stubborn individuals. After peed in his underwear and laughed about it, he discovered a new order in life. Where mommy says " if you use the potty you get a reward, " daddy says, " if you don't use the potty you go in your bed. " Well, after spending half the day in his bed, and taking a long nap, has decided that it is much more fun to actually be big boy and use the potty. Amazing how fast they can learn when motivated! Anyway, we are definitely on the road to no more pull-ups. How in the world do you train for nighttime when they are on a pump overnight? Guest guest
Judith, Glad to hear is on track for potty training. As far as the night goes, we haven't even bothered trying to train Jake at night. There is no way he could hold in the nighttime continuous feeds and so the other option is us getting out of bed two or three times a night when he has to go and unhook him and rehook him up. No way! I just couldn't go back to that " newborn " stage again of getting up all night. Putting a diaper on at night easier. I remember asking a mom of an older RSS child and she said when her son got older and just couldn't do a diaper anymore, they gave him a urine bucket (like they use in the hospital) and he kept it on his night stand. He would use that during the night, rather than having himself unhook and hook himself back up to the machine (because he would always " forget " to hook himself back up and the whole bed would get wet. For now I am just thankful he is only four and a diaper is still OK. Alison > Hi all, > > First, thanks for all the ideas regarding getting Becca to take > medicine. Guest guest
--Hi, this is , mom to , now 5 we had gone to the convention and Dr. H was also this way with me towards the potty training ! She got real upset that he was in pullups to! She told him " you may be small but you are 4 yrs old and 4 year olds wear underwear, " I was a little taken back, because we had been trying for a long time, He had just gone through his second surgery on his " willie " and was still hurting from this and the catheder, I know this isn't an excuse but he just had no interest. Well while their she told him she wanted to see him in underwear the next time she saw him,He said underwear hurts we were trying. Pattie took my mom to the store their in Chicago and bought him a couple pairs and we tried it, he didn't like the feeling of the underwear touching him!He said it hurt which I guess his Willie was still sensitive, but he went in the potty in the hotel and that was that . He was trained, I couldn't believe it!! In one day, he was so excited that he couldn't wait to see her(Dr. H)When he did he ran up to her and pulled his pants down to show him his new underwear!! I let him try them at night and he wet a little but not much, I gave all the pullup's to a family there and he has been trained ever since, I was so proud, he does have acccidents at night but he trys, he sleeps so hard. I don't get mad it is alot of sheet changing but I don't want to get him worried believe me he has been through enough, my thing to like you said about the night feedings is different, he is going to have another surgery ugh ,and have to be back in diapers he is not going to like that to well!! Well I just thought this was neat how we had the same potty experience, just my two cents good luck!! Guest guest
Hi Judith, Great story. Jordan is pretty much potty trained now. We'll have a few accidents here and there but for the most part he tells us we he has to go and we leave him in underwear all day. At night it's a different story though. We still put on pull ups at night. I don't know how you potty train a child while on the pump all night. Jordan is such a strong sleeper I don't think he would wake up at all to use the potty even if he wasn't on the pump. Something interesting happened one night. I forgot to take off Jordan's underwear once and he was hooked up to the pump all night. Do you know when I woke up in the morning he was as dry as a bone. He hadn't peed in his underwear. Go figure. I am afraid to try that again though.
