My son Maxwell has been on gh for over 13 years now. The only " side

effect " we have noted is that he is now gh resistant, meaning he

needs more gh in order to grow. But last week at Dr. H's he

measured in at just over 5'1 " and we were so happy. He is, too, but

apparently he is getting teased a bit in high school this year. He

is handling it pretty well, but I'm sure it hurts.

has done great on Humatrope. I was terrified, took

meticulous notes, and found that within 5-7 days, we could draw up

the meds and give the shot in our sleep....

On that note, 4 years later, we still give her shot every

night about 10-11pm after she is asleep. No alcohol wipe because it

stings. We use Eli Lilly's Injectease which is like a big plastic

tube or Bic pen. You place the syringe inside, and it locks down.

Then you press the bic pen agains the skin, push a button which in

the span of a nanosecond, pushes the needle into the skin which then

at the same time you push down the plunger, count to 3 and lift

off. BAM! 5 seconds and your shot is done!!!! The pressure of the

injectease against the skin takes away the feeling of the needle

going in a lot.

No side effects for except good ones. Lower blood pressure,

increased muscle mass, healthier. Lots of height gain. She is now

almost at the 75th percentile.

Kathy,

Yes, Dr. H. does keep kids on gh past puberty, or at least during

it. Max's puberty was supressed until exactly a year ago. His bone

age is still delayed, so he has stayed on the gh. He does take

Arimidex, so that helps keep the bone age from advancing quickly. I

know Max is not done with puberty because of his age and also

because he does not need to shave yet. And his voice has not

changed, either. We will keep up with this gh until we get every

single cm out of it. Our new goal is to make it to 5'3 " .
