Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I do believe that Dr H doses Zantac at 6mg/kg/day. Jenn or Jodi Z, correct me if I'm wrong here. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Kathy - the increased dose of cyproheptadine may be the cause of his increased reflux. 's infant reflux went almost away (or at least she didn't complain) but once we went on the periactin/cyproh, she complained a lot about a tummy ache and even vomited once. You may want to let your doctor decide what he is comfortable with -- we did twice a day Zantac for a long while before it seemed to " wear off " and then we went to a proton pump inhibitor in the am (Prevacid) and Zantac at dinner. If you can explain that these two RSS experts (Harbison and Stanhope) who combined have probably seen 500+ RSS and SGA kids, that they have found that this silent reflux is significant and intermittant with these children, and exacerbated with the Periactin. You can also throw out anything about the GI doctors and peds surgeons who also have worked on these kids .... (sometimes peds GI docs will say " what is an endocrinologist doing dealing with GI issues.... " Keep us posted. Guest guest
Dr. H. told me 9mg/kg...why do you think she told me that? Do you think that is why the GI was so alarmed? Guest guest
,Pat, and all, Thanks for all the reflux and dosage info. I'm taking Willie to the ped tomorrow. Willie told me bacon gives him the biggest " headache in his neck " . Maybe it hurts more after the night w/o food? Do those of you w/reflux probs wake them at night to feed? (please say no...) So the Zantac dosage of 6mg/kg/day would go like this ? W. weighs about 10kg so it'd be 60 mg/day in 2 doses of 30 each? How do you space them out, 12 hours or near meals? Can it be given at the same time as the Periactin? KAthy (Jack, 5, non- RSS, and Willie , 3 1/2, 23.2 lbs,33 in., Periactin)
Guest guest
Hi Kitty, Willie is 3 1/2. I just think sometimes the feeding tube would alleviate so many of the stresses around trying to get the food into him orally. I do know it'd create new stresses and problems but sometimes I just get frustrated. Knowing that he'll need so many more calories w/ght seems impossible. We just keep plugging along, right? Guest guest
Conny, Thanks for the reflux info. I picked up a book today that tells common " problem " foods.Unfortunately, they are mostly high-fat foods. Ugh. Guest guest
Dear Kathy, I suffer from reflux and bacon gives me bad problems, too. If I were going to eat late at night, I would eat rice, which never gives me heartburn or (oddly enough) plain potato chips, which also seem to digest very gently. Guest guest
While that is true, it is not universal. I never have problems with cheese! Peanut butter and tuna fish are ones that surprised me. Often though, you can ease the problems by eating a problem food with a bland one. For example, as I told you, rice is always good for me, so I might eat rice with something that could cause trouble and that might keep it from irritating my stomach.
