I've tried running water, and that doesn't work. I don't make any fuss about accidents, and when she goes in the potty, it's PARTY TIME!!!! Candy, cheers, praise, you name it! For whatever reason, it seems she doesn't want to go in the potty. Margaret

I'll let you know. (Someone said that they have seen us model using the toilet, so they want to use the toilet too. All I know is that my kid will go into the bathroom, sit on the potty for *hours* drinking juice and listening to the water trickle down the drain, stand up, pull up her pants and go in her pants.) in San Diego mom to Kathy, ASD, 3.3 yr > >
Guest guest
Margaret, I have been reading your potty training dilemmas and making myself feel better just to know that someone else is in the same boat I am in, but I think I am sinking fast. My 5 year old niece (w/autism) has been living with me for seven months. It has taken me this time to get her to sit on the commode. She is too large for a potty. I started with the ring. That is when she really started to try sitting there. I tried at Spring Break and decided she just wasn't ready. Now that school is out we are really trying. Sometimes she sits there just fine and others she screams. She will not have anything to do with being there. She has not actually done anything in the toilet since before Spring Break. I am about to give up hope. I tell her it is time to potty. She runs to the bed, climbs up and lies down on her back thinking she will get a diaper instead. I thinks she is just now realizing when she is doing her job. I'm not sure if she has the " I'm going to sensation. " Thanks for the updates! Presently, when she goes to the bathroom, we have her standing up until she starts to " go " then quickly put her on the potty. We have her wipe up the floor (hand over hand). Our Wed pm therapist got four successes in two hours yesterday doing this! Mind you, DD drank four cups of juice in the same time. Guest guest
My son was not potty trained until we treated yeast, diet, and underlying virus. Now at 8 he is finally there, Miriam
Guest guest
, We're starting potty training tomorrow. I am trying to take advantage of the break between now and summer school. God help us. Bye, Becky
