Guest guest
Yes, our son is a stutterer too. For a couple of years we were so happy he talked, we didn't worry about it. I've read that if you get professional help before they are 6, the less likely that they will be stutterers as adults. Something about therapy after the magic 6 makes it harder for them to remember and consistently use the techniques they learn in ST. If your child stutters for more than 6 months, it is time to seek therapy. After 12 months, they will be very concerned. This does not include the " normal " developmental stuttering that occurs around 2 - 3 years. Our son stuttered for about 12 months when we got help. We had very good success last summer. My son was 4 1/2, almost 5. Tested as a " severe " stutterer (range was mild-moderate-severe-profound). We also started the diet about the same time. After 3 months of private ST specific for the stuttering , and 5 months on the diet, he was fixed! (>90% fluency). He occasionally slips up, and we gently remind him to go " slow, smooth, and easy " and use our " snail speech " .
