Happy freakin' anniversary to me. I went from the 130 range to the 175 range. This past spring I managed to lose 15 pounds that I have miraculously kept off by cutting carbs. So far, that is the only thing that I have found that helps me. My biggest problem is I am so lazy and I love bread and pasta. I will exercize religiously for a month, and then get totally sick of it. I wish I could become addicted to exercize! But no.............. Here, see for yourself what I used to look like and what I have become! It ain't pretty! I wish you success in finding what works best for you! Guest guest
On the lighter side of the weight issue, pun intended...... Some of you know that my user name at Mediboard is Hiroshima. Let me explain why. I was very hypo upon diagnosis...and packed on some pounds. My husband could not remember the name Hashimoto's. So he used word association...he called it Hiroshima's disease because I blew up!!!!! lol Then I took RAI, and the Hiroshima thing had a double meaning! I am just happy that my husband still thinks I am the bomb! God bless,
Guest guest
Hi, I missed the original question. But agranulocytosis is extremely rare. Now that it's known to be related to inappropriately high ATD doses, it's seldom seen. I've not met anyone who had it from ATDs. In the lab, we see agranulocytosis often in patients on chemotherapeutic agents used in cancer therapy. Agranulocytosis is not considered irreversible any longer with the advent of colony stimulating factor meds. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
Hi Dawn Rose, it's nice to hear from you. I can give you an answer for your second question and a " nonanswer " for the first. >1) Has any member of this group actually developed >agranulocytosis as a >direct result of being on ATDs? Aileen had a different rare reaction, vasculitis, which was believed to be caused by PTU. >2) More importantly (joke!) has any member of this >group who has had >Grave's, then bunged on a stack of weight when they >were on ATDs (in my >case about 50lbs) - has anyone managed to loose that >weight? I'm 49 and had not gained a pound since age 15, no matter what I ate. When I went hypo on PTU last fall I gained 35 pounds in 3 weeks (10 of which replaced loss while hyper). When I got my levels really euthyroid this summer (100 mg PTU and 50 mcg Synthroid) I slowly started to lose weight and now am only about 7 lbs more than my former weight. (Losing weight did make me unnecessarily nervous about getting hyper again.) I've tried to be active and mostly tried to eat healthy (but then there's all that chocolate . . .). Beyond that, though, I imagine metabolic rates vary and it may take some people longer than others.
