Guest guest
Pam B, Thanks for the links. Especially enjoyed the positivehealth.com story, which I haven't read before (and wouldn't have found on my own). Guess what -- I went back to the NMT woman. I know, I was really ranting, and I still have my reservations. But I feel like I'm half-way through, and perhaps it is all a waste, but I just want to feel like I finished a " course " of it. No, I don't think she's the best, but hopefully it is doing me some good. I will tell her I want to stop soon, because I don't believe it should drag on. She also mentioned " maintenance " every 6 months, which didn't sit well with me (I haven't heard of maintenance being part of NMT, but to the contrary, it is supposed to be permanent). Again, a cause for concern. But I do want to hear her out further (at least in one more session) about Standard Process, which is the only company she trusts (does she hold stock?). What do you think about different brands of supplements? (I'm not talking about herbals -- I can't go herbal now if I'm considering pregnancy). Is Standard Process so head-and-shoulders above any other brand? My NMT practitioner is very against OTC brands, and also seems to prefer SP over conventional prenatal supplements. Currently, I am taking Solaray Calcium citrate (after I finish the OsCal, which I don't like), Nutricology Magnesium citrate, Jarrow Milk Thistle, and NataChew prenatal vitamin. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Hi , LOL I'm glad you are giving NMT a little more of a chance! I wish she sounded better at it though - but maybe she will surprise both of us! Ok supplements... I really can't say much to brands of supplements- I'm sure some are MUCH better than others. The cheap ones use fillers and dyes and can actually be harmful... or just a waste of money. If you look in the news you will find stories of city sewers filling up with undigested supplements - gross I know, but it gives you an idea of how you can waste your money. So you want a supplement that is digestible and no dyes and little filler - so that means most likely a capsule or liquid, not tablet... unless it's a tablet that dissolves in water easily - you could always test it. You also want to avoid supplements with artificial sweeteners in them - a lot of them have that garbage in them - why, I don't know. And then there is the question of how much a body can absorb at one time - Supposedly the vitamins that you take over the course of a day are better than the ones you take once a day - your body can only absorb certain minerals and vitamins in certain amounts - like calcium - only 500 mg at a time or something like that - so if you take your 2000 mg all at once, 1500 of it gets flushed if you know what I mean. You could look on ithyroid.com to see if has any recommendations on certain brands... I do think SP is a good quality brand - my mom uses their stuff and says she feels a difference when she takes it from when she doesn t. Hope that helps, Pam B. Guest guest
Thanks so much, Pam. This does help. I will have to see what regimen she comes up with regarding SP. I have a feeling that the supplements are going to be rather pricey when you add them all up.
