Guest guest
Hi Yvonne, The Free T4 and Free T3 tests are important, as well as getting tested for autoimmune antibodies (especially TSI antibodies). I am a newbie, so I hesitate to give any specific info, but it does sound like Graves'. Is there any way you can get to a good doctor (one who is experienced with anti-thyroid medications and doesn't just push RAI) before August? I don't think I would wait that long (even if I had to travel far). If it is Graves', read all you can so that you will be informed about treatment choices and how to take care of yourself. Guest guest
Hi Yvonne, did your doctor put you on any beta blockers to help with your shakiness and fast heart rate? From the sounds of it August is TOO long to wait for an endo visit - If I were you I would insist my doctor call and make a case that I bee seen much earlier - or that he run the proper tests and get me on ATDs right away. 50 pounds is a huge amount of weight loss and your eyes are a very good sign that this is in fact graves disease. You have a lot of research to do right now. A really good place to start is on the Mediboard in a thread called THYROID AWARENESS 101 http://www.mediboard.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=1 Hope this helps and hope you get proper care very very soon, Pam B. Im trying to do some research that is why i am here but i am very confused about the whole thing. Im trying to sort out everything but when i spend time trying to look into things it just depresses me. Could anyone tell me anything about any alternative meds or herbs i can get my hands on in the mean time. Guest guest
Well i am going to be in alaska and i dont think there is anyplace to go do that there. i already take a mega multi- vitamin from gnc-- it had lots of b vitamins but unfortunately it also has iodine. i have to see what i can do about that. i feel tons better when i take them regularly. just gives me much more energy -- but i have been taking these for about 2 years now-- i was having female problems and always bleeding-- 3 out of 4 weeks so i started taking vitamins then. i had been on a strong dose of bc to correct that problem-- for just over a year and then i started to have high blood pressure all of a sudden and that is when i started to lose weight fast for no reason at all. I am going to try to get my dr to put me on a beta blocker -- i have been having fast heart beats and pounds hard and just the last few days i have been having pains. To me that is the scariest part. Thanks for the info and you guys are great im really glad to have found you. Best wishes to all that have this problem-- Yvonne > > > > Hi Yvonne, did your doctor put you on any beta blockers to help > with your > > shakiness and fast heart rate? Im glad i talked to you guys--i would have just not done anything i think. i mean the pains are there-- and annoying-- but not major-- seem to come and go-- but it is scary none the less. Guest guest
Hi Yvonne, The uptake test is not a very good diagnostic procedure. Because of the high iodine content in the American diet (iodine lowers uptake results) the results can be misleading. Also, if you have T3 thyrotoxicosis (more T3 produced relative to T4) the uptake can be normal in Graves' disease. Your results are normal but can not rule out Graves' disease. It's better to have the blood test for TSI. TSI are the antibodies that cause hyperthryoidism in GD and this is a specific diagnostic test, whereas the uptake can only suggest that you may have GD. Take care, Elaine
