Hi,

We are just getting going on the diet after having received our test

results from Dr. Cade's office.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to access the list archives this evening to

look for answers to my questions.

1) Does anyone know if Veggie Booty snack by 's American Gourmet

is okay?

It looks okay to me for those who can tolerate corn and soy: " Organic

Rice, Corn, Organic Soybean Flour, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, (Whole

Food Concentrates) Spinach, Kale, Cabbage, Carrot, Broccoli, Green tea,

Parsley, and Sea Salt. " The label doesn't say gluten-free though even

though it toots its horn about every other healthy aspect of the product.

2) How about calcium-fortified fruit juices? For instance, my son has

some Adam & Eve Cranberry Apple juice boxes with the following

ingredients:

" 100% fruit juice (filtered with water sufficient to reconstitute, pear,

apple, and cranberry juice concentrates), calcium gluconate, citric acid,

vegetable color, calcium lactate, natural flavors, ascorbic acid (vitamin

C). "

On this one the calcium lactate and natural flavors concerned me. I

called the co., but haven't gotten an answer back yet.

" Lactate " doesn't sound good....is this an automatic no-no? If so, are

any calcium fortified juices allowed on the diet?

Thank you in advance for helping a beginner.

Shannan

Shannan,

The Veggie Booty is OK- Miss Roben's sells it.

Calcium lactate is also OK. Forms of calcium were discussed in great

detail at the DAN conference. Calcium carbonates are not absorbed

well, but taste the best. Calcium citrates are well absorbed, but

taste is a problem. Lactates are well absorbed and taste OK.

Lactate is NOT from milk, lactose is.

(This info about calcium is copied from Jayne Barese's presentation

at the DAN conference last Friday.)

Good luck as you begin the diet! We have seen fantastic results!

Sue
