Guest guest
Hi Clair, When my readings continued to stay hypo on 100 mg/day of PTU my endo had me add 50 mcg Synthroid (5/1/03). My FT4 and T3 were on the low end of normal and I had a hypo TSH reading, too (nearly 3, but down from 8 in November; I was diagnosed and started PTU last Sept.). My understanding is that many people with Graves' have a suppressed TSH, though. I've felt much better since adding the Synthroid--it got rid of the muscle aches and cramping I was having and, best of all, I feel more awake than while I was hypo. The only problem I've had has been a really confused menstrual cycle (where it previously changed with my levels, coming at shorter intervals when I was hypo and longer intervals when I was hyper, now it came at the normal time but lasted two weeks: I assume my body's just really mixed up and plan to see what happens next month before talking to the doc about that). I've hear it's best to take the Synthroid first thing in the morning. I then wait an hour before taking my first dose of PTU. I've also heard you should wait four hours before taking calcium or iron, as they can decrease absorption. I go back to the endo 7/3 and expect my levels will prove to be about right for now. Best wishes, B.
Guest guest
Thanks so much for the info ! I have been having muscle cramping lately too and wondered why... I guess perhaps my fluxing levels might explain that =) I've been fairly lucky with my menstraul cycle, though. It has remained consistent through all of this madness (but I have been unable to conceive for 2 1/2 years...). I am hoping the Synthroid (it's 25mcg) will make me feel a little better. I did take it first thing this morning and there was a warning to not eat for at least 30 minutes afterward. I don't take any supplements, but generally wat a yogurt in the morning about an hour after my meds... Do you think this would interfere because of the calcium? Anyway, thanks again for the info. I appreciate it!! Clair > Hi Clair, > > When my readings continued to stay hypo on 100 mg/day of PTU my endo had me add 50 mcg Synthroid (5/1/03).
