As I wait for our geneticist's write-up to send out to Dr. H's

office (along with other past tests done on my son so they can

review his potential RSS status), I've been thinking a lot about

where my son has been on the growth charts: He's always been 3rd

percentile for weight (and is now " touching " the 5th percentile

line!), and he's currently 20th percentile for height. I'm wondering

if 20th percentile is considered high or within range when looking

at RSS?

I hope you all don't mind my neverending questions, but we've been

concentrating solely on my son's weight charts for the past three

years and looking to his height is something relatively new. Thanks

to everyone for your expert guidance!!

Marcy - If your husband and you are both at the 95th percentile in

height, your son may be at the 20th. But I have to be honest that

in the hundreds of RSS kids we have charted, I have only come across

one that was at, I believe the 10th or 15th percentile, and both her

parents were very tall.

Are you positive he has RSS, and is not failure to thrive? Failure

to thrive, with severe GI issues, can cause major weight problems,

which can severely impact height, sometimes dropping a child 2-3

standard deviations from their target.

I think you will get a good answer when you see Dr. Harbison. Has

your son always followed the 20th percentile in height? What is

your height and what is your husband's height?

Thanks!

I just thought I'd chime in here! My nearly 3 yr old daughter is in the

25th% for height and has been confirmed RSS by Dr. H. She went from 5% to

25% in height this past year after the placement of a G-tube, her poor body

was obviously starved! She only reached the 3rd% on the weight chart after

her tube and still is only at 10%. At this time, Dr. H is not recommending

GHT. I know Alyssa is the odd girl out, but I wanted you to know it

happens. I am 5'7 " and my husband is 5'11 " .

Dayna, Mom to Alyssa, though taller than most, still a skinny little booger~

Hey Kate,

My oldest dughter, , is 24 years old, non-RSS, and 4'10 " , so don't feel

too short! LOL She was always very tiny, but since my ex-MIL and ex-SIL were

4'11 and 5' respectively, 's height was never questioned.
