Guest guest
When Max complains that the shots hurt more than usual, it is most likely because the meds are too cold. We just have him fill the syringe in advance and then leave it on the counter for 30 minutes. It brings the med to room temp, almost, and is still safe to use. In fact, after a mistake by the housekeeper at a hotel one vacation, Max's gh was left out for 24 hours. We were in a panic. The drug company said that it can really be left out up to 72 hours and still be good to use. Another thing you can do is make up several syringes in advance. When Max was 3, we used to get almost 2 full weeks' worth from one vial. On Sunday night I would make up the syringes for the week. I just had to take one out, let it " warm up " a little and then use it. Oh, it was so much easier. (And now that Max does it all himself, that is the best of all!) Guest guest
Sherry - Imagine getting a shot, as miniscule as it is, and the " liquid " entering under your skin. Absolutely, the colder the GH the more they will feel it. That being said, however, there are times I give her shot straight out of the refrigerator and she doesn't wake up... However, for the most part, we draw up the syringe, and then leave it out on the counter up high for 20-60 minutes before giving her shot. Remember, though, everyone, we are one of those rare families that still gives most of 's shots about 11pm at night, after she has been asleep for several hours. It works for us, because when we started GH, my husband was commuting to NY for work, and it was too hard for me to get two kids to bed on time at 8pm at night, teeth, jammies, etc., and to then deal with a shot battle by myself. So asked for it when she was asleep. 4 years later, we still do it. If we are camping, we do it when she is awake. And if she is on a sleepover, same goes. But it sure makes life easier at 11pm.... That way I never forget a shot either! > > I've seen a couple of postings about the temperature of GH that > suggested it might cause more pain to give the shot when it's > colder. Guest guest
Thanks for your comments on this, Jodi and . I feel like we've been doing this forever yet there is still so much we question and try and improve on. It's great to get advice from those of you who have much more experience with it.
