Our daughter is GFCFYF and soyfree and we have found alot of snacks at the

healthfood store. Her favorites include Brown Rice Chips by Eden and All

Natural Corn Chips by Little Bear. Hannah

My kids love sesame rice crackers, from Crunch Master; they're

round and we buy them in regular stores (rice flour, safflower

oil, sesame seed, salt). Also, how about rice cakes? My son loves to

put jam or jelly on it (I buy the plain one, no salt). But I make

lots of different kind of cookies, so that solves my problem. I buy

Tim's potato chips (potato, salt, oil). If you are not sure of corn,

and you give corn items, how about white corn tortillas, warmed up on

stove until crispy and maybe with a slice of ham along; or corn chips

(we buy Diane's, I think they're okay).

And then lots of fruit, and raw veggies, like carrots. Summer is good

for fruits!!! there is a big choice now. Popcorn too (again if you're

not avoiding corn).

There's probably more, but we're not yeast free (yet?)... sorry!

I agree this is quite sad! Just had a good cry over the whole thing

myself earlier today! (We just started this diet a couple weeks ago, and

I have my moments when I think I can do it, and most, when I do NOT!

Mostly I just feel overwhelmed.)

So far my kids have all liked the Quaker apple and cinnamon rice cakes

which I think the gfcf list said was ok. (correct me quick, someone, if

I'm mistaken! :o))

We are trying all kinds of different new things (mostly expensive though)

like dehydrated veggies and fruits (the Just____Brand. For instance,

Just Peas, Just Cherries, etc.) They're yummy and made of " just "

whatever the main (and only ingredient!) says on the label. (OK, you

cross-contamination-gurus out there....are these ok, I hope? I get them

at the HFS).

really likes the Hol-Grain brand rice crackers, and he adds his

own natural peanut butter between the wafer-thin crackers for mini

sandwich crackers. He only has a mild allergy to peanuts, so we do get

this. We tried cashew butter, too, and my other kids said

" eeeeewwwww.....yuck! " , (ASD son) didn't know the difference, but

I loved it so much I probably won't be buying more of that! :o)

From the book " Special Diets for Special Kids " I tried the only recipe in

there which is gfcf plus egg-free, soy-free...the bread/roll recipe in

which the contributor says it's surprising how good it is considering all

the stuff it's free of! But mine didn't come out anything like a roll.

Both times I tried it! More like a scone, so we buttered them (now I'm

avoiding soy, so I can't do that part until I can figure this whole

butter issue out...ha, ha) and put on all-fruit jelly.....really yummy,

actually! (Anything wrong with all-fruit jelly, folks?)

Of course there's high fat stuff like regular Lay's potato chips...keeps

me sane in a hurry with my van full of whiny kids some days, if we're out

and about!

Cascadian Farms tater tots are fun, too...oops...I think there's soy in

those, too, so I'll have to start making my own. Goody.

Can you tell I'm new at this? Well, I thought I would just mention a few

things. Oh, and the Gorilla Munch by Nature's Path (Envirokidz) is fun

right out of the box or a baggie! I have four children 8 and under, so

trying to even attempt doing this during summer vacation has been a major

challenge. This is how I'm living, with fast easy quick-fixes, for now,

interspersed with some really good, home-cookin' kinds of gfcf meals!

(which amaze even myself!)

About the Gorilla Munch, I have a question on that one for the experts

out there. I re-read the labels on the FRONT and found that it actually

only says " wheat free " on that one (the Gorilla Munch) and possibly on

the Amazon flakes as well (?) when I thought they were both in Miss

Roben's catalogue (as GFcf) plus on the gfcf list as ok, PLUS the

ingredients themselves seem to be fine! So where is the gluten hiding

and should we be avoiding this one??????

Of course there's fruit, fruit, fruit. We've been having a lot more of

it lately, even trying things we don't usually have like mangoes!

And the Applegate Farms nitrate free bacon...I think it's turkey

bacon...I don't have the package rigth in front of me...I think they have

both, so if you're avoiding pork, you can gewt turkey. Makes a fun

middle of the day snack. Albeit a little fattening. I know from my days

with my weight loss regimen that you just have to cook those babies CRISP

to get rid of most of the fat, and they're actually not too bad,

fat-wise.

I would be interested in others' snack favorites, especially those that

are perhaps overlooked, simple, fairly easy to get, not-too-expensive,

and/or which don't have to be made!!! (I have to ease into that.......)

RE My post: Sorry I didn't notice the Yeast-free until after I sent my

letter. I don't have to watch for that. Not sure which of the items I

mentioned have yeast. Sorry about that!

My son is in the same boat. He eats Holgrain Brown Rice Crackers. Try and

get a flavored brand, like onion/garlic. They are very thin but crunchy. He

eats them. You can also get potato chips. I buy the Pretzels for him also,

I think Glutano or Glutino...can't remember that name right now, or maybe its

Energ brand, but I give them to him maybe 2x a week so his bowels don't get

into more of a tizzy....sometime air fluffled popcorn too, but also in very

small amounts. Pamela's also has cookies that our kids can eat as well.

There really isn't much out there, but good luck.
