Guest guest
My endocrinologist told me that so far she had had one case each of agranulcytosis and drug-induced hepatitis in her patients on ATDs and both had pulled through. She is not originally from the U.S. but now teaches at my state capital's medical college. Her belief is that all three approaches to Graves' have pros and cons, and she suggested that ATDs were the least invasive. My impression before I found this group was that it made more sense to fix the immune system than to destroy its targets, especially since my body seems to have recovered from transient periods of hypo and hyperthyroidism in the past. My parents are European. My maternal grandmother was treated with radiation for fibroid uterine tumors by a very progressive gynecologist (who was also her grandson). Ten years later she died of stomach cancer. There's no other case of this in the family, and her spouse lived to 105! Makes me want to avoid radiation. Best wishes,
