Guest guest
Hi, , Just wanted to say that Amy had some oral surgery last fall, when she'd only been on medication for Graves' for about six months. She was more stable then but I was still worried. I made sure the oral surgeon understood her condition. (She had a growth that had to be removed.) She did fine on the anesthesia, (can't remember what kind it was) but the whole thing was very hard on her. The staff acted like she was being a baby when she got nervous and almost hyperventilated before they began the procedure. After she woke up from the surgery, the nurse was basically rough with her and rushed her out of the room so they could get another patient in there. We wrote a letter to our insurance company complaining of the treatment but I doubt anything was done. Certainly nothing was sent to us, except an acknowledgement of receiving our letter. I guess what I'm trying to say in a very LONG way is that I would definitely wait as long as possible on getting those wisdom teeth out on Lillie. Amy was much more reactive to anything new going on with her and was more easily upset then. She still reacts strongly to changes going on without her full comprehension of what it's about. The stress alone right now might not be a good thing. We've had to learn to slow things down quite a bit, and we're still working on that. Amy sets up some unrealistic expectations for herself then crashes when they don't materialize. We haveto work hard to help her stay calm and just take a day at at time, like learning to brush and floss regularly! :-) Pam In a message dated 8/22/2003 3:21:56 PM Central Daylight Time, harcho@... writes: > >8/22/03 > >>Hello, > >>I have a few dental questions, hoping someone will be able to > help. > >>Lillie (17 yrs old) just came back from the dentist where we > learned > >>she has 4 cavities that need filling. Guest guest
I wrote a nice reply, and hit a weird button, and lost the entire thing. Ask for a consult with the oral surgeon prior to scheduling for wisdom teeth extraction. There are several alternatives available to be " put out " these days even though the patient will think that they are asleep. My own 20 year old son has his two lower wisdom teeth partially erupted, but they pose no health threat for him, and we will eventually take them out. It does not appear that he has any upper wisdom teeth. He is not prone to infection with them, so, leaving well enough alone for now. They will eventually have to come out though. Carbocaine is in every dental office. It's not a problem to request it. Chances are Lilly will not have a problem with the regular lidocaine though either if she isn't having palpation's. But some people just don't like the lidocaine. It has a vasoconstrictor in it to keep the novocaine in the area longer and help control bleeding. But Lilly at 17 with just fillings to do shouldn't have a bleeding problem. CDA, RDA stands for certified and registered Dental Assistant. I have been one since 1977. Got tired of sucking spit a while back and now I " m the office manager, but still keep my registration current. We keep the dental floss on the night stand and by the remote for the TV. We floss while watching TV. It gets you in the habit, and you can't say you don't have time, if your just sitting there watching the boob tube. Chances are her decay is between the teeth, and flossing and watching the pop/soda intake are your only choices. Guest guest
He agreed that it would be fine to wait for a > while for the wisdom teeth to come out, though he said it will need > to > be done eventually, or they will crowd her front teeth as they come > in. Did Lillie have orthodontia? If yes, ask your orthodontist what s/he thinks. I was told that if my daughter wouldn't have her wisdom teeth out when she did that it would have basically undone her orthodontia. Give Lillie a brief reprieve - she needs it - but do keep on top of it. Guest guest
It is a myth that wisdom teeth erupting will make all the other teeth crooked and un do orthodontia. Please don't have Lillie get her wisdom teeth removed at the time period for this reason.
