Guest guest
Just an add to the late bloomer discussion on the teeth discussion... Hannah got her first tooth when she was sixteen months old (most came after her second birthday). She is three now and is still waiting on some of the side teeth to come in! Every doctor we had from six months up until that point blamed every illness on teething (including her low height and weight). They all said she was just teething and she just didn't feel like eating!
Guest guest
Ah, these are the days when we wish we COULD be the taz and blow up - for once! Sorry about Isaac! My daughter's 2nd blood draw at Children's here in Boston was horrible (that person will never touch my kid again!) and for months after she would vomit at the sight of a nurse or dr - or just a photo lab tech in a white coat! Some suggestions - call the lab ahead of time and ask who will be on a certain day and if they are experts with kids - tell them your child needs an IV nurse quality phlebotomist. Ask if they can prepare the area/vein ahead of time (with my daughter I think they used warm clothes to help bring out her veins). I think if he is hydrated too that helps. And, once you find a great blood - drawer - " stick " with her/him! ( sorry trying humor here) BTW, I have NO idea how to make a cat pee on a phonebook - but you made me laugh as my day wasn't the best either!!!! GOOD LUCK! > Hi all- > > Just need to vent and ask a question..but first the vent part! > > We are in the process of selling our home and looking for a new > place to live which is sooo stressful and I am now workin 3, 8 hour > days per week. And on my days " off " we have endocrine appts, > pediatric weight checks, etc, etc. Since Isaac has hypothyroidism > they have to check his TSH levels every other month which means that > have to draw blood. Guest guest
Mimi Here are my limited thoughts! ha first the cat...........well I won't go there..........when my started to do that, I ended up having to put him down. My kids think he's gone to a farm where he can pee outside all day long. UGH! Now for the teeth. 7 months is early even for non RSS kids. That being said...........all kids drool LIKE CRAZY for months before the tooth pops through. My daughter (non RSS was 9 months old when her first tooth came through, but I recall the diaper rashes, red cheeks, drooling from 6 months onwards). Adam's teeth finally came through a few days after his first birthday. His teeth DID come in in the right order......the bottom 2 centre teeth first, then the upper and then the neighbours on each side of that; upper and lower as time goes on. I am interested to read if anyone else had the teeth come in at different times. Oh just to add to that, Adam has his adult front 4 teeth (same order) and he's 11 1/2 now, the rest are coming in the right order, but they are erupting all over his mouth! The dentist just loves us..........I think he's planning his retirement on Adam's mouth alone! Guest guest
Jodie........it is normal for the bottom two to come in first. Oh wait......OK now I'm confused, I'm going to get out the baby book........Ok I checked my book " what to expect in the first year " and it says the first tooth BOTTOM ( I thought so) erupts somewhere around 7 months. Of course that is an estimate (for the average baby). Guest guest
hi mimi, sorry to hear you are having such a rough time with the blood drawing have they used a butterfly neddle on him this the only way they can get jacob do to his size and weight.and i aggree with the other mom find the one that does it right and make sure he/she is there each time you go. as his teeth i remember when jacob got his first (teeth) he was almost a year they came in by twos and his bottem ones came first then the side top ones then the middle top one and until alot of them were in them all came in by two's as for the cat good luck find a liner and put it on the top of the litter and hope she will use it. hugs to you cara mom to jacob fairiegirl98 wrote: Hi all- Just need to vent and ask a question..but first the vent part! Guest guest
Mimi, Are they trying to take the blood at Dr. Willcutts office, or at the lab? We had a problem with the nurses in the doctors office trying to put in an IV (8 tries!). They finally gave up. At the lab, they get a veign the first time every time! (Over at the hospital too!) You can ask for an anasthesiologist or specialist, and they do a better job! Cutting his feet is rediculous! They could try a veign behind his knee first!! (Not as precious a spot!) I would be furious too! Sorry lady! Sometime they are great, and sometimes they drive me nuts!!! (Our appointment is Thursday!) I am so frustrated for you! Good luck with your cat! (I can't imagine!) Guest guest
Hi Mimi, I can relate to your frustration over the bloods. Olivia had to have bloods done when she was 11 months and I'd just had my heart surgery so I couldn't go with them... to make a long story short, my husband has little to no experience with the medical profession and the stuck her 8 times before calling in the Dr. to do a neck stick! I was quite furious since she struggled so hard that she pulled both ham strings! I now tell who ever is doing her stick that she has only ONE try and then the Dr is being called in to do it. I'm not much help with the teething, both of my kids teethed very early. got her bottom 2 teeth at 3months and 5 days... needless to say that was the day that I stopped nursing her! then she got 2 a month until they were all in, even her 2 year molars came in at 16months. Olivia got her first 2 teeth at 5 months old but she was a preemie so her adjusted age was 3 months. I think that it's partially genetic because when my parents adopted me at 14 months old I had all of my teeth including my 2 year molars... just my 2 cents there! As for the cat... hmmmm, I have no idea!!! We had a cat that liked to sleep in Olivia's crib during the day (never when Olivia was in the crib though!!!) and when we took the crib down she peed on Olivia's big girl bed 5 times in 2 days!!! The vet said that she was very mad and was acting out, there was no infection, so maybe it's to do with your move???? Any way our cat went to my parents farm and she's still there doing great. I'm glad that you feel safe to vent here, it sure helps to get a load off and we know what you're going through too! Take care! Guest guest
Hi Mimi: I know how you feel about them poking around. When was a few months old I had to take her to the hospital lab for blood work and the woman was taking her time and finally just about ready and oops forgot to put her gloves on and so I had to try to calm again and at that she couldn't get it. So I got mad and said forget we will be back at another time. These people are dealing with young babies and kids - BE READY!!! However, when was 14 months old at the er for dehydration they actually sent me home because they couldn't an IV in her because she was too small, needless to say I was back 5 hours later. The long and short after several tries that night they finally called in a NICU nurse and it took her 2 tries. So my suggestion is that you request they have a NICU nurse come in. They have the equipment for small babies with small veins and they are good at it. I would definitely stop the foot pricking. Before I even read the part about the OT I was thinking " that poor baby " and especially poor you because I would not have been able to listen to my kid scream through that. As far as the teething was 11 months old when she got her first tooth on the bottom and it took a long time to even come up. It seems to me that my kids drooled for a few months before the tooth even cut the gum. In fact my 2 year old who is not RSS has this one tooth on the bottom which literally is taken a month to cut the gum. To figure out which tooth it is get one the Gerber rubber tooth cleaners and put it on your finger and feel around. You will feel a little bump for which one it is. Now the cat, well like everyone else says good luck. It was bad enough trying to get a urine sample from before she was 2 and not potty trained so never mind a cat. I guess the vet didn't have any suggestions huh? Sorry. Again, definitely try and ask that they get a NICU nurse in for the blood work!!! Guest guest
I was wondering if RSS and SGA had anything to do with the fact that Mia got her first tooth at 17 months old. she is 21 mos and only has 4 teeth. Sounds like a lot of rss babies get teeth late. nne (mom to Allie 9, Jack 7, Casey 3 and Mia 21 mos possible rss, sga) - In RSS-Support , Onamishnjordans@w... wrote: > Just an add to the late bloomer discussion on the teeth discussion...
