Guest guest
Hi Marcie, I read your post and definetly can relate, but I used to get winter and fall and spring blues too. I realize the GFCF diet is hard enough, but then with extra add ons, (or really add outs) of things makes it even rougher. My son is also allergic to soy, chocolate, etvc. and we have him no artificial colors or preservatives also, but now its all working out great. No more blues. I got alot of great recipes and ideas on this site and actually this diet at times has us eating some really crewative things. Ask others for ideas and read all these posts. It helps. Good luck- and have a nice summer this year. on Long Island New York * ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
| Just feeling a little blue lately... soy, corn, yeast, and sugar free (except for that friut based sweetner found in certain foods) His big | sweet treat is an occasional pear... Hi Marcie, I think many of us know how you feel. My daughter is also on a similar extremely restricted diet, and since it's helped her so much I won't quit. What gets me is the lack of a carefree existence - having to lug a cooler everywhere I go, worrying about perfumes in motel rooms, molds and dust in other's homes, etc. There has to be a payoff somewhere, and all I can hope is that our kids (and we) will grow stronger with this challenge. My daughter is very high functioning (for which I'm extremely grateful) but she's surrounded by NT kids, some of whom are 'perfect', who eat pure junk and get away with it (for now), who succeed socially, etc. It's hard on her. This school year she took a big step backwards in terms of school behavior, and we're still digging ourselves out from under the debris. I have a nephew (also age 10) who is increasingly difficult to manage. He may yet obtain " Aspergers " labeling, but in the meantime seeing him reminds me of how important it is to maintain the diet, because he's not on it and I know (based on food removals done while he spend days at my house) that it would help him. It's doubly painful to see him have problems. I've found this whole business much easier to take because I've gotten some energy medicine therapy. If you can, look into finding someone who can help you this way. You could ask at your local health food store for people practicing homeopathy or meridian tapping techniques. My daughter and I see a TBM (Total Body Modification) practitioner. Others see BioSet or NAET practitioners. Craig's EFT site at www.emofree.com allows you to download a free 80 page manual on EFT meridian tapping techniques. You can get Donna Eden's book " Energy Medicine " or Fred Gallo's book " Energy Tapping " (www.energypsych.com) or Roger Callahan's book " Tapping the Healer Within " (www.tftrx.com), and there are others. These books describe how to do meridian tapping to release emotions. I was able to take a 3 night course through the local high school night school this spring. The teacher was a local practitioner who uses his own mixture of these methods (mostly EFT) who claims he sees patients only a few times before their problems are resolved. These techniques don't change your situation, obviously, but they can help you with your feelings (less depression, anxiety, etc.) To do these techniques, you tap certain points on the body while reexperiencing the strong emotion, and the distress level goes down or disappears. I tried the EFT on my daughter a week ago. I'd been tapping some points I learned from the EFT teacher for about a week without obvious success. We had a big blowout session last Wednesday morning, with her screaming while I tapped. She went to school with steam coming of her ears, but when she returned for lunch she was like a new person. It's been almost a week now and she hasn't blown up about this particular teacher in that time. This special ed. teacher, who must already have a special place in heaven reserved for her, sat down with us the next day after school and for over 1/2 hour she and my daughter and I discussed all the problems we'd been having calmly and rationally. My daughter was absolutely irrationally furious with this poor woman, and for this past week she's been OK with her. I'm not saying that you can cure all your problems this way, but it's relatively cheap and certainly worth a try. Just thought I'd share this, as I've felt like jumping off the bridge in the past! As crazy as it may seem, these new tapping techniques really seem to help. Now if I can just get my husband to quit laughing and try it... Hang in there, K.
