Guest guest
Jean - Totally agree abot the simple carbs! The great thing about Whole Foods and Trader Joes (I don't know if you have them where you live) is that you can buy foods like goldfish and pretzels that are made without trans fats, and that are complex carbs, not the lowest on the glycemic index but without sugars). But yes, we try and avoid simple carbs as much as possible, and have taught to read the label and look for the " Other " and " Sugar " under the " Total Carbs " line item. Even our waffles are Nutrigrain wheat waffles, which have 28 total grams of carbos and only 3 grams of sugar (but are enriched wheat so not totally great). We use the orange juice in the morning on purpose, to boost her blood sugar levels right away, as when she awakes she is usually pretty low. That being said, when was younger, around age 3, and we were desperate for weight gain, we would have given her ANYTHING she wanted. The trap we parents fall into. I remember offering her Reese's Peanut Butter cups daily, and I justified it because of the calories and peanut butter.... HA!!!!
