Tori,

Post-partum is the time many of us become hyper and is indeed a trigger for

hyperthyroidism. I would NOT discount your symptoms and would get bloodwork

done asap. You're right in the thick of the time for hyperthyroidism to set

in.

I really wish I could answer the questions about your little guy but I don't

know!! I would try not to worry too much as that TSH is not too far down and

could rise naturally or fluctuate, generally.

Congratulations again!!! I'm quite sad, with my own seven month old, knowing

this is my last baby :). SEems like I didn't enjoy the first two so much and

am now getting all that sweetness. . .

Best,

HyperT Baby?

Hi All,

Since I'm breastfeeding my 2 1/2 month old, Gaven, while taking PTU, Gaven's

pediatrician is monitoring his thyroid levels. His last labs indicate that

his TSH levels have dipped below the normal range. Although the reason we're

monitoring his levels is to make sure the PTU doesn't cause him to go hypo,

I'm

thinking that perhaps my antibodies are getting into the breast milk and

stimulating his thyroid. However, his T4 levels are normal. Should I

discount the

TSH results as long as T4 remains normal? Is there any reason to run his TSI

levels? I'd find the results interesting, but they require more blood and

it's so hard to draw enough blood from such a little guy, it just kills me to

watch him scream as the nurses try. Here are his latest labs:

TSH 1.1 (1.7 - 9.1)

T4 11.1 (6.9 - 16.5)

I'm not sure if the T4 results are free or total, it just says T4. I told

the nurse to make sure the next labs have FT4 levels.

Since I stopped taking PTU during my 8th month of pregnancy and stayed off of

it for 2 months, I feel myself going very hyper again. My eyes have worsened

significantly and I feel the panic, irritability, and palpitations setting in

again. Are there special concerns of going hyper post-pardum or is all this

because of my lapse in PTU?

Thanks,

Tori

(To the background music of " Sunrise, Senset " ) Seems is the operative

word. You did more than you remember. There's also something special

about a baby with older siblings because you seem him not just through

your eyes but theirs.

Take care, Fay
