Splenda con't, recent labs -- Pam L

Pam,

I agree with you -- Spleda sounds like something to stay away from. It

makes sense intuitively, as " artificial " anything raises a red flag with

me, and your link proves my hunch. Nature will provide, and there is no

free ride (i.e., olestra -- ugh!). I would think a bit of sugar or honey

would be preferable to artificial sweeteners, unless one is diabetic, of

course. Stevia may be an acceptable item, though I tried it once and it

didn't float my boat, so I don't know much about it, and haven't been

inclined to find out. I just avoid sweeteners, especially now. Never drink

soda, no alcohol, cut out the coffee (only drank 1 cup per day for a few

years, and quit a few months ago -- used to add sweet & low), and so I

drink water (sometimes with lemon), OJ, fresh iced green tea (with 1T Sugar

in the Raw per pitcher).

On another note, I am surprised by my recent lab work, and you were right,

Pam, I am heading towards hypO, FAST. First off, I feel fine. Surprised

that I do, but I don't have my complete thyroid results (the gyn only got a

TSH for me, though I heard her ask for FT3 & 4!). If you recall, I started

out mildly hyperT, and began with 200 mg PTU on 6/20. On 7/10:

TSH: .04 (.4 - 5.5)

FT4: .9 (.8 - 1.8)

FT3: 253 (230 - 420)

Dropped dose to 150 mg the next day. I requested blood work while at the

gyn on 7/23, and TSH was 5.27 (.4 - 5.5)! I wish they had done the FT3 & 4,

but I'm almost positive they neglected to do it (I think the technician

didn't hear the doc when she asked her to order it). At any rate, I dropped

my dose to 100, and will tell the endo today or tomorrow. I am going to

request blood work again from my GP in the next week or two, as I believe

100 is still too much, and I want to see the FT3 & 4, along with WBC & RBC

(liver looks OK, with slight elevation of Total Bilirubin, and comparative

increase in LD, tho WNL). Any thoughts? (Could I be in remission -- I know

it's unlikely, or did my TPO-Ab increase, or just too much PTU?)

Thanks,
