Good that he prescribed it for 3X a day. I would expect it to be for a total of 30 mg. a day. Possibly 45 but 30 is more likely. Guest guest
Some day indeed. Best you slow down and continue figured all this out. Sounds like they are playing fast and loose with your money and health. I just received this today, and came back here to share it with you. http://snurl.com/2zg0 Funny... all the symptoms listed in this article are also thyroid symptoms. Have you printed out and reviewed the REAL list of hyper and hypo symptoms we have on our home page ? It is worthy of printing, and review over time, as the subject is one many are confused over often. Even at my experience level the list helps, because when my levels are not correct, my 'Forgetter' tends to have a firmer grip on me. :-) _________________________________________ No, you do NOT want a scan ! http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/graves_disease/64958 The iodine can easily cause more problems for you, and the eyes have the track record of being one item sometimes damaged by the scan. Do NOT allow them to hold you hostage and refuse meds until they get their $1,700 out of your insurance co. for a useless scan, with many false results, and a real possibility of causing harm. __________________________________________ Now the first thing you want is the lab results. Do not take a single Tapazole until you see these copies of your labs. You have no way of knowing what you have for sure, and if proper base line readings on WBC and a liver panel were done . Please get these. Walk in and have them make a copy and hand it to you. It is your legal right and very important. The paper will have each test done, and the normal level for THAT lab. Many labs have different normals. IF proper labs have not been done for the baseline readings, you could have a heap big problem on your hands in the next few months . They often only do these tests AFTER meds are started... they are off ( by Graves' itself ) and the patient is then told the pills are doing this, the Tapazole prescription is refused and RAI is supposedly your only choice left. This is a darn lie. You will doubt my word right now, but stick with us, and you will see this dirty trick/ ignorance ? played out over and over. _______________________________________ I also have read about male breast enlargement and possible milk secretion with hyper. Now that is really fascinating . Amazing what our body do and how everything is tied together. You may want to research how the testosterone plays into thyroid hormone. For us gals, our estrogen level affects thyroid levels as estrogen competes with binding to proteins , and thus the thyroid levels , a competitor ... changes. This is why the women can not use a total T3 / T4 reading to judge thyroid levels. We must have the FREE T3 and FREET4 tests done. Wonder what testosterone does ? __________________________________________ Hang in there Del, you will get this straightened out, and feeling better is on the horizon -Pam L- .. 3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission since Jan. 28th. 2002 ! Key: SLOW reduction of PTU (despite an incompetent endo ! ), eight hour dosing, labs every 4 weeks, improved lifestyle, REAL food/ no processed pre-made food, herbs, and looking at the big picture. Triggers are: MSG/any 'flavorings', glutamates ,aspartame, pesticides, high iodine foods. _____________________________________________________ Pills alone only help the symptoms. Guest guest
I had Tapazol prescribed before my trip to the endo...at 45 mg per day..3 doses every 8 hours of 15 mg, and I have to say I am feeling so much better. My GP prescribed it based on my thyroid tests. I will be posting those results later tonight...He also stated that more people are using medication therapy now instead of the RAI and surgery, and they do well with it...???? Is he special or what? Wonderful! This IS a very high dose; you may be ready to go to 30 within a month, from there you may do well decreasing in 5 mg. increments every 4-8 weeks. He also stated that more people are using > medication > therapy now instead of the RAI and surgery, and they do well with > it...???? > Is he special or what? Yes. He's good to have in your corner before you face your endo. 3 years ago I was told that 80% of endos recommend RAI as a first option for treatment of GD so odds are you'll face this.
