Guest guest
Hi , I really sympathize with how hard it is to get proper care. I finally had to acknowledge that my endo is not informed enough about Graves' to continue with my care but I'm not looking forward to speaking with dozens of RAI advocates as I look for a new one. Do you have the flexibility to change endos or get a really good GP (boy, would I love one of those)? I think writing a letter is a great idea but I hope you'll get a better response than I did in a similar situation--zero response. I doubt the guy even knows I never went back to him. Some doctors will engage in dialogue, but it seems others would rather be wrong than be challenged. I assume staying at hyper levels is hard on the body, though if you're only looking at total T3 it's possible FT3 is a little lower, I would guess. I would expect that it would take the body a while to readjust after ATDs. The only useful thing I can offer is from reading a post by K9 Mom on Mediboard just now. She's in remission and recently off meds, and her new endo, who actually called her with test results, felt her levels were doing some " mild swinging, " or something to that effect, and not to worry, they would settle down. That sounds like a similar situation--and it sure makes me want her doctor! I hope you can get this straightened out soon. Best wishes, Is it possible for your body to become dependant on ATDs? In other words, can your body become dependant on the ATDs to keep your levels normal? Has this happened to anyone? If your levels of thyroid hormones are only slightly above normal and your body maintains them at that level consistently should you be put on ATDs? Or, should you just be monitored closely and kept medications if possible? Now I need to get my endo to listen to me. She won't run FT3 anymore, she won't run antibody tests and she only has me go for labs before an appointment. I was going to write a letter stating what I expect in my care, too over the top? in MA USA Graves since March 1997 Currently on 2 PTU tablets per day Was in remission from 2000-2003 Will not undergo RAI
